This is my attempt to build a bit of a stylish crossbow fighter type prestige class.
New Feat
Crossbow Shirk
Prerequisites: Dodge
You receive a +4 Dodge bonus to AC against attacks of opportunity made when you reload or fire a crossbow.
The Crossbow Slinger
Requirements
Base Attack Bonus 5+
Weapons Proficiency: Any Crossbow
Feats: Rapid Reload, Crossbow Shirk, Point Blank Shot
Tumble: 4 ranks
Crossbow Slinger
Hit Die: d8
Skills: 2 + Int/Level. Class skills: Climb, Craft, Jump, Swim, Tumble
Weapon and Armor Proficiency: The Crossbow Slinger receives weapons proficiency with the Light, Hand and Heavy Crossbows. They receive no new proficiencies with armor or shields.
Lightning Reload(ex): The Crossbow Slinger no longer provokes an attack of opportunity when reloading a crossbow.
Crossbow-whip(ex): You can whip your crossbow around with lightning speed to strike an opponent with its stalk at melee range. This is treated as a simple melee weapon that deals bludgeoning damage: 1d4 for the hand crossbow, 1d6 for the light crossbow and 1d8 for the heavy or repeating crossbow. A magical or masterwork crossbow does not gain the normal benefit of any such bonuses for this attack, but the crossbow can be made masterwork or magical specifically for this ability separately. You have a normal threatened area while holding a crossbow with this attack.
Extra Reload(ex): At 1st and 4th level the Crossbow Slinger receives Extra Reload as a bonus feat.
Lightning Shot(ex): A crossbow slinger no longer provokes an attack of opportunity when firing a crossbow.
Dead on Shot(ex): At 2nd level a crossbow slinger gains a +2 bonus to hit and damage when shooting an opponent with a crossbow who is within his normal melee reach. This bonus supersedes the bonus from Point Blank Shot.
Crossbows Akimbo(ex): At 3rd level a crossbow slinger can gain the benefits of the two-weapon fighting feat when using a crossbow, even though it is a ranged weapon. They do not gain the two weapon fighting feat automatically, however.
Crossbow Sneak Attack(ex): At 3rd level a crossbow slinger gains the sneak attack when using a crossbow (including a crossbow-whip), dealing an extra 1d6 damage when the opponent is denied their dexterity bonus to AC or flanked (note a crossbow slinger still does not threaten an area with a shot from their crossbow). This functions exactly like a rogue’s sneak attack, and stacks with any existing sneak attack bonus the crossbow slinger may have. The bonus is increased to 2d6 at 6th level.
Prone Shot(ex): At 4th level a crossbow Slinger gains a +2 bonus to any attack made with a crossbow while prone.
Diving Dodge(ex): A 4th level crossbow master can choose to dive to the ground (prone) when attacked by making a DC 20 tumble check. If they succeed in the check their opponent gains no bonus to hit for them for being prone and the crossbow slinger gains a +4 dodge bonus to AC against their attacker opponent until their next action. This can only be done if the crossbow slinger is standing and not denied their reflex bonus to AC against the attack.
Follow Through Shot(ex): A 5th level crossbow slinger can use this ability once per round. If they hit their opponent with a crossbow-whip attack they can whirl the crossbow back around to take an immediate shot against the same opponent with that crossbow, using the same Base Attack Bonus for the extra attack. They gain a +2 bonus to damage with this attack, and their opponent is denied their dexterity bonus against it.
Extra Reload
Prerequisite: Crossbow Slinger Level 1+, Rapid Reload
Benefit: You can reload a light crossbow as a free action one more time per round. This only applies to a hand or light crossbow.
Special: You can take this feat multiple times. The benefit stacks.
