Crossgen RPG

I don't think its necessary for the system to be oriented towards super powers. With exception of Negation, what is the largest number of sigil bearers on a world? 2? I have not read every title, but the number is generally not very high. Sigil bearer could be a template placed on a character, and a rare one at that. Depending on the campaign of course. Most characters would be better suited for play with d20 Modern, or standard fantasy fare.

Speaking of which, will the books support both systems? Or only one of them?

My wife is dreading this; even though we don't game much anymore, we're both big Crossgen readers, so she intends to invest heavily in the RPG source books mainly to supplement our comic book collection. (My faves: Negation, Way of the Rat and Scion. I'm getting into Route 666, but it's a slow process.)

As for the discussion regarding sigil-bearing player characters? ... I can imagine a game setting that would allow a mix of character types -- sigils, First, Secunde, high-tech or skilled norms, Atlanteans, aliens, etc. -- but it would have to be very carefully balanced by the DM and reasonable players. Think JLA or Avengers where each hero has a different power level, or a Buffy/Angel episode with slayers, demons, witches, etc. The potential for power-maxing abuse is pretty hefty. You gotta have good players to make it work.

All said, though, I think it sounds like fun.

It will be interesting to see precisely how the integration of sigil-bearers and anyone else comes about. Also the whole morality thing - red versus gold. How will that work? (Is it possible to pull a Mordath and go completely red, or even completely gold? What would that entail?)

The possibility for cool is high. The possibility for something half-baked is always present, but crunch shouldn't be too hard to generate and the fluff is all on my bookshelf. (Or it should be, if I weren't only getting Sojourn. Poverty-stricken artistry is less romantic than it sounds, I can barely afford the second phoneline ;) )

There might also be a way to manifest the Sigil power without being granted it; Jad does... something... in Meridian that looks a lot like Sigil manifestation, but.. might not be. After all, he seems to have lost it again. Maybe. Or maybe he just got a great deal of extra Con and Str from it.

Interesting tidbit:

MERIDIAN VOL. 1: FLYING SOLO, the opening chapter in the title's series of graphic novels, was selected by the New York Public Library for its Books for the Teen Age 2003 List. To celebrate the publication of the List, a reception attended by dozens of authors-including MERIDIAN writer Barbara Kesel-was held on Saturday, March 22nd, at the world-renowned New York Public Library.

That is very cool. Its always good to see comics seen as somethign more than just funny papers. When they are something more, at least.

The traveler edition of this graphic novel ($9.95 and is 8" by 5.5") is also part of Cross Gen's "Bridges" program which is an Education program that uses edited versions of Meridian and Ruse as reading assignments for vocablulary and reading comprehension.

Meridian is aimed at Elementary and Middle school, while Ruse is aimed at High School. My only comment on the program is that I'd like to see some more diveristy in the comics they chose. Not every American subculture has pleasant thoughts about the Victorian Era (even if it is on another planet) or likes the idea of a blonde girl as the heroine.

I haven't read the last few issues but, I think Selphie(sp?) gave a little of her power to Jad.
