Cruel DM stuff

Next most evil thing I've done -- and also tons of fun:

Eberron campaign -- party has found themselves in the Demon Wastes on a mission to hook up with the local orc tribes. One of the party is a half orc fighter with a bit of an attitude. Part of the plot behind the scenes is that the dragons are all aware that *something* horrific is approaching, and the party, of course are just the ones to do something about it. Not just that, but the dragons are beginning to quietly lay claim to individual party members as "theirs." Also, for my purposes, I'd given ALL dragons in Eberron the ability to take on humanoid forms.

So, they arrive at the orc village -- all a bit nervous, but find that the orcs all revere the same power behind the Silver Flame. So far, so good. A routine trip to the blacksmith turns out not so routine for our half-orc, as the smith was actually a Black Wyrm in the form of a very cheerful, brawny orc woman. She looks at the half orc, grabs her shoulders, turns her around while appraising her like a horse and finally says, "Yep, she'll do just fine," with no further explanation. It was hate at first sight, on the part of the character.

Payoff came when the dragon finally revealed her true form to the party and clarified, "See, lass you're MINE. What's coming is big enough that we need to get directly involved this time and, well, we're picking who we want from you lot. You'll. Just. Have. To. Deal."

Only slightly less cruel was the brass dragon laying claim to the gnome artificer -- a brass dragon that had hidden itself as a tribal leader of some kobolds in the undercity of Sharn and as a joke had sent the artificer a Garden Gnome outfit.
