Cruise liner fends off pirate attack

Ah! here we go. Found it!

MAHE, Seychelles (AP) -- The crew of a cruise ship attacked by pirates off the coast of Somalia used a sonic weapon to help ward off the attackers, the Miami-based Seabourn Cruise Line said Monday.

The device blasts earsplitting noise in a directed beam.

The Seabourn Spirit escaped Saturday's attack also by shifting to high speed and changing course, the cruise line said.

The sonic device, known as a Long Range Acoustic Device, or LRAD, is a so-called "non-lethal weapon" developed for the military after the 2000 attack on the USS Cole in Yemen as a way to keep operators of small boats from approaching U.S. warships.

OK, so pirates and ninjas have been mentioned, and we now need only one more topic to make this thread complete:

DINOSAURS

This thread is now complete! ;)

I tried to create a halfling pirate character but no one was afraid of her.

It's kind of hard to be afraid of anyone who's about 2.5 feet tall..... :p Ankle gnawing isn't as dangerous as one would think....

That character must have been a total square.

I run now.

Coulda been worse... made one's height based on the Pythagorean Theorem and then named him "Pythagorean" just to piss off the DM... (and the other players...)

An update from the BBC, apparently these small raiding pirate craft are being launched and controlled from larger "mother ships", and they know of at least two of these command ships controlling their own small fleets of raiding craft far from port.

There have been at least 4 known raids on shipping from these pirates in the last few days, and they are currently holding at least 7 ships they have captured (and holding the crews hostage).

Attempts to fight the piracy locally have failed because of the feuding warlords have kept the military busy fighting each other.

I can't believe I could honestly type those sentences in a context other than a game. Y'know, I think I remember seeing this episode before. :)
