I recently came across a link to this, and searching I found a few more.
It seems that a cave in Naica, Mexico is akin to being an immense geode - some 50 - 100 meters across and about 20-40 meters high.

Absolutely astonishing!
The first thing I thought of when seeing them was to wonder what it would be like if such caverns formed naturally more often - as often as normal caverns, for example. I could then easily see miles long caverns of such crystalline wonderment given a bit of truism to that old idea of fae beings living in crystalline buildings inside hills, lit from above by glowing crystals - the glow either due to magic or due to the crystal having an outcrop near the top of the hill, and bringing sunlight down through it each day.
I could see elves living in crystalline palaces, dwarves having vast crystal pillars supporting their halls, and even gnomes having crystalline passages reflecting real and illusory images to further confuse any intruders / visitors that sneak in unannounced.
There is another (far smaller, but still quite large) crystal geode in southern Spain just large enough for a few people to sit in, with crystals far clearer than those in this cavern - clear enough to read through despite being at times nearly a foot thick. I don't have the link to that one, however, but google should be able to find it without much trouble.
