Cunning Surge... again?

RUMBLETiGER

Adventurer
I've been fascinated by Factotums for a while now. Currently playing one, having a ball.

And so, upon rereading the class entry for the bazillionth time, I find myself wondering, can a Factotum spend an additional 3 IP to Cunning Surge again, after having already done so?

Can a Level 20 Factotum with his 10 IP Cunning Surge 3 times in a round, taking 4 standard actions?

Second question. I've assumed that Cunning Strike, the +1d6 Sneak attack for 1 IP, is stackable, burning multiple IP at the same time to grant +xd6 SA depending upon how much IP you want to burn in that moment.

I'm not asking what is within reason (this is D&D after all), I'm asking according to RAW.

By RAW, there is no limit on either. I'm about to play a gestalt factotum and promised the DM before he could even ask about it that I'd never use Surge more than once/round. Seems like a saner way to handle it, IMO.

As for SA...I really wish they had just given the Factotum some sort of dice progression for that ability and limited it to one use per turn. As it is, 1d6 SA is pathetic after a few levels, but the idea of blowing all your inspiration for massive SA damage on the first round is best to not do in polite company, either.

I'm probably just not going to use the SA option at all to avoid stepping on the Rogue's toes. That and... an extra standard action is > 3d6 SA to me. :)

Side note: Have you seen the Font of Inspiration feat? It's as required for Factotum as Natural Spell is for Druid, again IMO.

Bah! I balk at Sanity! I do, however, try to avoid pissing off my DM. Thanks.

My Human Factotum took this feat twice at first level. Good times.

If you want something fun, look up the Iaijuitsu focus skill from OA.

My Factotum has max ranks and I finally was able to use it last game, expending an IP to Cunning Knowledge, for +5d6 damage. Very Good Times. I am negotiating Lucid Dreaming skill with my DM since your suggestion in the "Expert" thread Dandu.

I'm about to start my Factotum as I said. DM is letting me have Iaijutsu Focus, but I can only use it once/round. HOWEVER, I noticed a great synergy with the Whirling Blade spell, which has you roll a single melee attack against all creatures in a 60 ft line. As if that alone isn't enough to love, the fact you use int for attack and damage instead of str or dex and that it works just as well in wand form* as it does as an actual cast spell is icing. May prove useful to you, I don't know.

*Fun fact: the same book that has Factotum has a 100 gp item called a wand chamber you can put in a shield or weapon. As long as you hold that item, the wand inside is considered ready for use as if you were holding it. So put it in your shield. Or for maximum hilarity, put it in the handle of the weapon you're about to hurl with the whirling blade wand inside of it.

My Factotum is working up to seeking someone to craft three Eager (+1 property, draw weapon as a free action, plus other good stuff) Blurstrike (+2 property, target considered flatfooted 10/day) daggers, for Iaijuitsu focus cheese.

I'll look into the the Whirling Blade spell, thanks!

All this said, my Factotum doesn't do the combat thing much, we've got a Crusader/Warblade for that. My Factotum took Fiery Burst reserve feat at level 6, pretty much makes the battlefield explode in places when he's not doing other control or party support things.
