Curse of House Thimbrall (orsal judging)

Boog thought for a moment, then spoke. "I think he's less likely to turn on us than Fredlar was, mostly because he has a lot more to lose than Fredlar. If he really was in Xyran's employ, and stuck in this manor for some time, then he'll need our protection just to stay alive. But he might be trying to think of some clever way to impress Xyran by betraying us." The odd young man shrugged. "So long as we're all ready for trouble, I don't mind just waiting for the charm to wear off -- you might want to discretely remind the others. Mostly I just wanted you to have a chance to do whatever it was you wanted to do with that amulet he's wearing...the one he says protected him from the zombies."ooc:[sblock]Honest, I wasn't trying to bring the game to a standstill. :) Boog would have deferred to Jann specifically for IC reasons as described above. And scout989 did say "about a week", and it's been over a week, so I wasn't getting too stressed about it.[/sblock]OOC:Thanks...it was good to get a few days off!

Jann replies, "The amulet he's wearing had a faint aura of abjuration -- that's protection magic. I can't tell what sort of protection it gives him, but it is what it does. The one he gave you radiates necromancy, and it's a lot more powerful. Abjuration might be used to protect someone from zombies, but only necromancy could actually control them."

Boog nodded. "Well then, we might as well get out of here and be on our way", he replied.

Boog approched Gerald with a raised palm. "You should be fine. He won't trouble you, I think we're all convinced that you've been telling the truth. Come, let's get out of this place...you must be anxious to see some new scenery."

ooc: I'll assume this is the first bit I could hear as it wasn't an aside

Kamdar's eyes light up, "What, time to go? Yeah!"

Anything more before you make camp for the night? If not, how will you handle watches during the night?

Boog: [sblock]At around the time the charm should end, you sense a change in Gerald's demeanor and attitude. It's not clear whether he's hostile to you, but he seems suddenly more uncomfortable, perhaps anxious or scared about his situation.[/sblock]

Boog helped the others set up a camp outside the cursed mansion. Not quite an hour after starting that work, he noticed a change come over Gerald, as if the man seemed troubled by something. After tossing an armload of deadwood on the pile near the fire, Boog approached the shaken man.

"What's done is done, you might as well make the best of it", he said with assurance in his voice. "If we all work together, we have little to fear from Xyran. He's already sent six men to kill us. Five of them are now dead, and the sixth decided that he had better things to do with his life than throw it away for a handful of gold. I don't doubt that we'll have to confront him before this is over, but if we do it will go badly for him. If I were you, I'd be watching our backs since we're your bodyguards. If you do, we'll return the favor."

Kamdar will offer to take a shift where he can take advantage of his low-light vision--not the darkest watch.

ao'Thuir too remains on guard prepared for any sneaky moves from Gerald.

[ooc: i'll be out of town till sunday. npc ao'Thuir if necessary. I'll try to pop in when I can but I dont know if I'll make it back in before Monday.]

Gerald nods. "I don't really need Xyran. I've learned enough magic to manage on my own. It's just... he's been so much to me. And now that's over. All of a sudden, I've abandoned all ties with him.

"You're right. It's done. I can't change that. He'd never forgive me. You're good people. You knew I was working for your enemy, but you didn't hurt me for it. My master -- er, Xyran, he isn't like that. You work for his enemy, he'll never forgive you. He'll carry a grudge against you for the rest of your lives, and his. Against me too. Especially against me, because I was"
(he hesitates "a traitor. That's exactly what I was, and it doesn't sound good. But maybe it had to be done."

You don't sense any insincerity in his response.

********************************************

How's this for a watch order:
(1) Ridik, Gerald
(2) ao'Thuir, Levin
(3) Keth, Boog
(4) Kamdar, Jann
All the arcanists have three consecutive shifts of sleep. Or would you rather do single shifts?
