D&D 5E Cursebringer Evocation + Paladin

The Cursebringer evocation allows the hexblade warlock to smite in a similar fashion to a paladin ( it's far superior in my opinion but the wording is the same for the trigger which is what my question is about ).

Is there anything RAW that prevents a paladin/hexblade from smiting with both features on the same hit, assuming appropriate type spells are used? I don't see anything that prevents this. It was amusing in our homebrew game when the character crit for 6d6 + 18d8 + 7 at level 8. ( 2d6 greatsword 1d6 hex 6d8 3rd level warlock spell slot 3d8 1st level paladin spell vs undead target, all doubled via crit ).

I'm not really interested in houserules people would use in this situation. I was curious if I missed an errata or sage advice involving this scenario.

The UA classes are not built with multiclassing in mind, so a Hexblade generally wouldn't have any levels in Paladin. If you're going to let your players multiclass with UA classes, you could just go ahead and let them stack powers, too.

Why not simply wait one month for the official Hexblade to come out to see if it is even an issue?

I don't care either way personally. It's not my game. The player of the warlock and I were talking about it and I realized as far as I could tell there wasn't a reason you couldn't "double smite". I was curious if anyone knew of a reason.

I didn't realize the playtest material was made without taking multiclassing into consideration at all. That seems odd to me but it's all good. It makes more sense why there is no wording to prevent the "double smite".

I already have XGtE on order, but was curious in the mean time.

Things become unbalanced when you add in multiclassing. You should always keep a look out for weird interactions that weren't intended.

Remember: Optional rules - whether published or homebrewed - are changes to the game, and you need to exercise discretion whenever you change the game.
