What Is Cursed Empire?
Cursed Empire Fantasy Roleplay strives for realism with a system that assists in the story telling process through vivid action scenes and game mechanics that allow for rapid and graphic resolution of combat situations and encounters.

The rules are more a set of reference items and guidelines that the Master of Tales (MT) can adapt to their style of gaming, than hard and fast “must play by the book” elements.

History

Many centuries ago the world of Thargos was mainly made up of a vast empire (known as "The Empire"). Trade was flourishing, and the inhabitants enjoyed a relatively good standard of living. In spite of limited incursions of certain evil hoards and a relatively high crime rate, the Empire was going through its golden age. It was a time of great discoveries and expeditions to new lands far across the vast oceans and seas. Numerous Pantheons of different gods exercised their influence on the people. There was a god for everything and everyone had a god. Temples could be found all over the Continent, homage to the faith and rituals of old. The Thargian slave-masters of history were no more than a myth, lost in the sinking sand of time.

The Great Cataclysm

No-one could have predicted what was going to happen, no-one ever knew why the elements brought so much destruction. Indeed, people had experienced great storms, earthquakes and other manifestations of the power of nature, but this time it was the apocalypse. The seas rose so high they devoured the earth, which in turn started to shake so violently that whole mountain ranges disappeared into the heart of the world. The centre of the earth choked its devastating lava flows, and a dark cloud of putrefaction came to cover the land suffocating and killing most of those who had survived the earlier horrors. It is said that this was all due to powerful Mage's meddling with powers they couldn't even begin to comprehend.

Death of the Emperor

The Empire was broken and toppled and its leader Mit-Sulek, was poisoned by one of his generals. At this critical time the power-hungry ate their fill with the land laid to waste and ripe for conquest. The ancient beliefs where no more, only remained the elements who had manifested their anger and their power. This is how the cults of each element appeared, each one divided into rival factions. A handful of manipulators understood this, knowing that the terrorised masses would fall into their grasp, handing immediate power and domination to them. In reality, the Great Cataclysm had banished the Gods, who no longer have any influence on the world of men. Their plane of existence has been cut off from the material plane of Thargos.

The Faction Wars

Numerous wars followed the fall of the Empire. Now the known world is divided between the North and the South, the North remains loyal to the restoration of the Empire and the days of prosperity and the South also known as Karnarcos hungers for power and great riches at any cost. With over 20 Knight Orders existing on the continent as well as 11 known Darkun Factions, 7 Druid Gatherings, 7 Druid-Priest brotherhoods and a whole array of noble households within the Empire, Karnarcos, and Rlishan society, it is easy to understand the complexity of the geopolitics involved. These will be developed throughout the Cursed Empire game range.

Present Day

It is in this context that the players are going to evolve, in a world torn by war on the verge of destruction, where religious factions and knight orders are at each others throats for supremacy. Players are going to experience a unique atmosphere of a desperate fight for survival, of the old struggling to survive the arrival of the new, with the choice to join either side or even find their own path. All characters played will adhere to certain codes, choose their allies and be subjected to their foes. Crimson Empire is a brutal world of conflict where the concepts of good and evil are relative, each side convinced that the other must be crushed as they represent the wrong way to lead ones life. The game is dark as the gaming world itself is being subjected to its darkest hour. One of the main underlying concepts is that the fate of the few is nothing compared to the cause of the masses. Self-sacrifice is an integral part of ideologies on both sides of the conflict: to die with glory rather than live in shame is the motto of over 70% of individuals.
