Custserv says SRD is wrong.

And who cares about what Custserv says, anyways. These guys have less clue about D&D than half the posters on this site. :p
Right, and that's sad. If someone really tries to get better at D&D rules, they should be able to get as good as our typical rules board regulars (note the emphasis on typical) soon enough. And if answering rules questions is your job, not doing so is unacceptable IMNSHO.

Yes, this is one of those cases where I think the intent of the ability is more important than the exact text. This one is hard to describe for designers, especially with how complicated the rules interactions have become.

If I was to reword the feat the way I believe it is MEANT to be played, it would be this:

As a full round action, you may make one immediate attack against each opponent within your threatened area. You forgo all additional attacks that you may get this round. You may not make any movement between attacks, however you may make a 5-ft step before or after all your attacks.

The idea being, you stand in one spot, swing your sword around and hit everyone it can hit. Thus, I would allow a character in a DD to use whirlwind attack, but they wouldn't get to move between attacks. I'd allow this because despite the exact text, I think Whirlwind Attack was not meant to be a full attack action, just a full round action that gave you attacks.

So if Customer Service isn't any good, where do we go for rulings that people will accept as being official? Accept and fear.

Think of it as some d00d lifting his sword, whirling around, and smacking everyone in 5 ft. (or in his threatened area, if you use the overpowered 3.5 version) in one strike.

I think that if a visualization of a move is taken from Diablo, that you should probably rethink your interpretation. WWA should look more like Jackie Chan fighting a gang than some big slow dork with a sword (look at the feat chain).

It seems the purpose of my post was not clear (no big suprise). What I am wondering is: How many people have been told by Custserv that some part of RAW is wrong without a faq to back it up?

EXACTLY!!!!

It's similar to someone thinking that a spear threatening an entire 10' ring is "unreasonable" (as in, more unreasonable than threatening an entire 5' ring with a sword)

You still use CustServ, you just need to translate their responses first. Whatever they say, take the exact opposite and treat it as gospel truth. You won't go wrong very often.

If CS told me the sun was shining, I'd go look for my umbrella.
