This is a discussion thread where we can list (and argue about) our favorite spells, by school and level.

This one is dedicated to Conjuration spells: What's your fave, and why?

To narrow it down to one favorite, Wall of Stone. I love conjurer wizards, and I love chess, so controlling the grid is great. Summon Monster follows, naturally.

Grease, it's powerful and funny.
Glitterdust, it's just really powerful.
Obscuring Mist, because for the low cost of a 25 gp scroll you get to demonstrate how completely worthless the entire Rogue class is at combat. :(
Wall of Stone, for the shapeability.
Dim Door, because being grappled sucks
Dimension Steps, for instant tactical repositioning
Benign Transposition, the poor man's Dim Door
Orb spells, though I wish they were Evocation instead of just making the entire Evocation school cry
Solid Fog, instant army shut down
Evard's Black Tentacles, why settle for just beating enemies when you can demean them as well?
Heal...no explanation needed
Close Wounds, saves someone from dying.
Maze, because I'm in favor of punishing people for stupidity
Any summon spell that lets you get a Lillend, Succubus, etc..., with Extend Spell ;)

I guess what I'm trying to say is, Conjuration is awesome! And I'm sure I missed a whole ton of great/fun spells, too.

I need to second (Third?) Wall of Stone, however used in conjunction with Stone Shape and Fabricate from Transmutation in out-of-combat situations.

Pocket Cave

The best conjuration spell is Pocket Cave. Granted it's a higher level spell, but it means no more ambushes. No more "How many rations do you have?" questions from the GM. It also gives you a secure starting point for each day. The issue is that it's primarily an NPC spell unless you've got a specialist conjurer, which does take some tweaking with the GM and the player, or an orc you trust.

Just looked that spell up, having never seen it before. Cool!

Does the fact that it's only available to an Orc shaman (Initiate of Grum'sh) make a difference?

That is a nasty drawback, which either requires the orc to be a friend or that you get a specialist conjurer with the GM clearing conjuration spells. Or you just take the time in game to make a similar spell. Custom spells used to be what made a wizard terrifying after all.
