EN Publishing set out to address some of the issues the players were having with 5e, and AFAIK it succeeded. It advanced the RPG to the next level.

Castles & Crusades - It really is the easiest to convert to any D&D version besides 4e. It's extremely easy to convert 3.X adventure to C&C due to how they are based, but at the same time 5e uses a similar math in relation to skill use and most of the classes combat hitting power (with the exception of Martials which get a higher to hit bonus, but fewer multiple attacks at higher levels).

It's spit easy to convert things from one system to the other. It's pretty easy for a conversion between BX or BECMI and 3.X or 5e as well.

It's a pretty malleable system.

I cast my vote for Dungeon Crawl Classics. I love the system, love the game, love the modules, and have published a few things for it as a 3rd party with more to come. I run a DCC game every Tuesday evening at a local coffee shop/chocolatier, and I love the group dynamic and the overall experience.

Best version of 5e IMO. I would not use any other version as a base to run my game if I could help it.
