I am wondering if I can trade proficiency with longsword in for proficiency in great axe or battle axe? Otherwise, I'll have to use my first feat for martial weapons...
Oh yeah, and what is starting gold for a centaur anyways?

I'm afraid not on the proficiency swap-out. A centaur's proficiency with the longsword is a lot like the elf's...it's a part of their culture and every centaur is adept at swordplay.

Starting gold for any monster character is 75 gp.

Hmmm, since its a cultural thing, maybe I should just go with long swords and bows for now. I'd hate to "waste" a feat on something I would eventually get as a ranger anyways...

Very well...

The young man stood at attention before a short, burly grey-beard clad in worn leathers and holding a stout bow over his shoulder. He was Artain, commander of rangers in the

Duchy of Gwynloc'h. Valen had arrived there only two days ago, bearing a dispatch from the capital. Somehow, he knew he would soon be leaving.

"Herruwen, the leading druid in the duchy, has been murdered, and his apprentice, one Johen, has disappeared. All we found was a black corpse, obviously slain by the druid. He

seems to be Azgundian... we know little else. We did find sign that the apprentice, Johen, fled the scene. We know not if he was involved, afraid, or chasing the culprits.

The scene has been protected so that you can read the sign. We want you to find him and determine his role in this. If he is guilty, bring him back."

"How can I identify him?"

"He is tall and slim, with braided reddish hair and beard. He keeps a trained falcon."

Valen nodded, and hitched his swordbelt.

The tall young man crouched over the dead druid and his assassin. He quickly spotted the footprints of his quarry. Indeed, it was one man, traveling light. Valen himself had

all he owned on his person. Checking on the angle of his scabbard, he shouldered his bow and set off south-east. He hoped this initiate was innocent, but he knew his duty in

any case.

A few weeks later, the young ranger walked the cobbled road leading to the Azgundi capital. He knew this Johen was somewhwere within. Now it was only a matter of finding his

countryman, and the truth...

What do you think?

Ok, here he is so far - I think he's fairly complete on mechanics. I hope you have excel. Aohdan is lost. During a solo hunting trip, he was attacked, as far as he can tell. He never saw what hit him, but later when he awoke, his head was covered in blood. Feeling the wound, he found many tiny shards of some crystaline substance in and around the wound. Aohdan staggered back to his hooves and checked his few posessions, none of which were missing. From there, he tried to determine which way was home, and found that while the area he was in seemed familiar, he couldn't ken the direction he needed to go to get back to his tribe. Aohdan spent many days trying to find his way back to his people, but for some reason the land only got less and less familiar. To make matters worse, he suffered bouts of headaches and delerium, and occasional hallucinations. Ringing tones would fill his ears, and shining lights surrounded various objects, but cast no illumination. Eventually his head wound closed up. Mercifully it healed without infection, but left a small scar nonetheless.
Even though Aohdan is far to pragmatic to have much concern with pride, losing his way in his own home forest causes him some considerable embarasment. He wasn't foaled yesterday!

Soooo, this is what I have so far for background, leaving some potential story hooks and things open for the DM to play with. He can pretty much start anywhere, seeing as how he's lost anyways.

Helfdan: I like the background tie in to Johen. Very well done.

Yttermayn: I need a little more background as to how he ended up across the ocean on a different continent. Given that he's not a fully mature centaur yet, you may want to consider having his family come over on the elven ships during the war and then losing his way as his parents fought (and perhaps died) in one of the major battles.

Shadowmask: Good to go, stat wise. We'll need more of a background before the 27th, however.

Ooookay- How about instead of a hunting trip, he was watching a battle from what he thought was a concealed place, when he was hit by something. When he woke, he found the battlefield empty of anything but smoke and the dead. No sign of his father (his mother had died years before of natural causes). The rest is more or less the same.
I converted the excel file to html and zipped it, since the attachment feature wont accept html files. I'm going to see if there are any filters available for download that will allow excel conversion to other formats if its still giving you trouble.
