Because I hope these rules are not for all mosnters in general.(IOW MM3.5) I want monsters to have the skills that are apprpriate for their "race" independent of how many HD they may or may not have.

Well, there's always Racial bonuses. You can do anything with those. Just check out the Spot bonus for Owls, for example.

The Minotar may be getting a bonus feat at level 4 and 8, but those are actually Hit Die 3 and 6...

thus Minotars ARE getting character feats, but they take 8 levels to reach 6 HD because of the other things they get.

This seems to say that you get character feats by HD + Level, not by ECL...
*nods* Makes sense to me; creatures always got their racial feats by HD in 3e pre-revised anyway...

Just wanted to point out that we've all had the opportunity to see most of these changes before, more or less - they're in d20 Modern :)

Hey, Eric, I think WotC gave you an advance copy of that book so that you can get an early start on getting converted into eTools format... *whistles innocently*

"Beast" is no longer a type -- all beasts are either Magical Beasts or Animals.
This is the second change that I didn't expect at all, but love (the first being the tactics section of MM writeups). The animal/beast distinction has always seemed artificial to me. Just because a creature doesn't exist in our world doesn't mean it can't be a natural animal.

YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS, DON'T YOU?!?!

Dr. Druid can now have his very own Animal Friendshipped T-REX!

Suddenly, the options for the animal friendship broaden significantly.....not to mention wild shape...wildshaped owlbears, wildshaped girallons.....

God, I love this. Druids may be something worth playing, now. :)

Are Size Modifiers changed?

Hi Eric! :)

I was wondering if anywhere within Savage Species it mentions any changes to Size? Notably with regards Base Damage Dice.

From the Revised Pit Fiends example it appears either it (or perhaps all Outsiders?) has been significantly boosted in this area. Base Damage Dice for all its attacks are at least doubled. Which possibly suggests that they might double/halve damage at each size increment?

Thanks.

Hi Eric! :)

Upper Krust -- no, I didn't see it mentioned either way.

Thanks for the quick reply. :)

Andy Collins curiously dodged the question over on his message boards...

You'll see when the revised MM is released in July.

...which piqued my curiousity.

I mean if no changes were being made, why not just say that; and it becomes one less compatability issue to address!?

So we still have no explanation of the Revised Pit Fiend base damage issue.

Maybe I have been watching too many reruns of 'Columbo' lately but I don't like unsolved mysteries. :D
