D&D 3.5 Scoops from Savage Species

Savage species is a book on playing monster races correct?

Because I hope these rules are not for all mosnters in general.(IOW MM3.5) I want monsters to have the skills that are apprpriate for their "race" independent of how many HD they may or may not have.

I'd say feats the same but at 1HD they can liekly start with more than 1 feat so it's not a issue to me.

So fine for savage species as a way to balance in monster races for PCs, but not fine for the MM in general.

Huh -- the revised pit fiend's skill totals are seriously off, then. It would get 2+8 skill points x (18+3) -- so it could have 10 skills maxed out at 21 ranks. But it has about 16 skills in the +29 and up range! So that's either 16 skills (6 too many) maxed out -- too many -- or there's some other effect in play.

Maybe some skills are really cheap (seems unlikely), the skill synergy rules have been greatly expanded, and/or certain kinds of subtypes give bonus skill points (e.g., "baatezu", "tanar'ri", "celestial" & the like get 6 extra skill points per HD, while plain old barghests or whatever get 2+Int mod).

Or outsiders are just supposed to get 8+Int mod skill points, and Savage Species will need errata. ;)

Eric, do you know whether these changes were made so Savage Species will be completely compatible with D&D 3.5? (Rather than with D&D 3, that is.)

Heh. I certainly looks like it might be - or at least that's what I'd like. :p

Types & Subtypes: "Beast" is no longer a type -- all beasts are either Magical Beasts or Animals.

Hmmm...this could have some interesting ramifications for the druid's Wildshape. Are creatures like the Owlbear and Girallon now Animals? What about Dinosaurs?

Does this mean there will be another errata for the Wildshape ability? Or will wildshape have a brand new base mechanic, one still removed from Polymorph?

The Minotar may be getting a bonus feat at level 4 and 8, but those are actually Hit Die 3 and 6...

thus Minotars ARE getting character feats, but they take 8 levels to reach 6 HD because of the other things they get.

This seems to say that you get character feats by HD + Level, not by ECL...
IE Minotars are ECL +2 (plus 6 HD) so a minotar with 8 fighter levels is ECL 16, but has feats as 14.

Atleast that is how I read it.Minotar monster class

Dinosaurs are animals in d20 Modern.

I'm glad they changed beasts into Magical Beasts and Animals, because that's how I have done them anyways. I'm happy even more. :D
