D&D 4th Edition Next Year?

It was from one person, who is NOT with WOTC, but has done a good bit with them and others, I simply didn't want to provide his name because if it was wrong (as it does appear to be) I didn't want to sully the fellow or create undo stress or harassment in his direction.

Well, it seems to me that spreading rumors about another company's business plans, when such plans would be a controversial topic, isn't engaging in ethical behavior. Doubly so if they aren't true. So, said person would rather deserve a modicum of stress and harrassment. If that person ends up sullied, they did it to themselves, and have nobody else to blame.

They probably should put out a new edition in '08, but they're afraid of folks complaining and whining and not buying their books.
Oh, this is rich. Praytell, why *should* WotC put out a new edition in 2008, Mr. I-know-better-than-everyone-else-cuz-I-shelled-out-tons-of-money-on-M:TG?

I too heard similar rumblings from a few bigger names in the industry. And no, I'm not saying who. Mike Mearls was also cited to be hired to work on 4e which would make sense. At this point its all rumors to me. When it does happen, I believe we will see 4e announced at Gencon and have a 1 or 2 year development cycle from then.

That's what I had heard this past July at a gamers' gathering BBQ. Mearls was hired to be the "architect" of 4E. Made some of us want to spit out our food, since none of us wanted to see another edition of D&D out so soon.

I love the 4e rumor mill...

I believe that WoTC will announce the release of 4e a year before its realise, when it is ready for 3-6 months playtest. Then resdesign, print, amrketing campaign for 6 months.

It is unrealistic to expect them to announce a JFK type "we will reach the moon by the end of the decade.." type announcement.

Based on that, I fully expect the development team to be assembled by the end of this year, for a working system ready for announcement and playtest Gen Con 2007, release 2008.

Of course...this is nothing but pure speculation.. so no flaming my troll

PS Go Ryan, Go Ryan :) ... Since when has "wanker" been a texan phrase.. you've been hanging with Morrus...

PPS We won the Ashes !!!! Woo hoo

Many people here don't understand marketing techniques. You must change them to surprise customers and incite them to buy. Now, 4e will be announced 1 year after its release. In fact, it has already been released. See my other thread to read comments of those who got their copies.
