That's what I had heard this past July at a gamers' gathering BBQ. Mearls was hired to be the "architect" of 4E.

Mike Mearls already came out with 4E, it's called Iron Heroes. I think it might need a 4.25 version already though, because the magic system needs some tweaking

Wouldn't it be easier just to skip the threads that have 4e in them?

It is common practice for a manufacturer to keep new products secret until product launch. That way, people continue to buy and deplete stock rather than 'holding off' and waiting for the new product to come out before purchasing...sticking the mfg with old stock they have to eat.

Odds are, if someone is telling you about an upcoming product that obsoletes a product that is currently sold, it is a rumor or they would not be discussing it.
