Corilo went from ogre to ogre, trying to salvage as many bolts as possible. Then, he sat on a nearby rock "A rest would be nice. Killing ogres is busy work."

Gnorth winced as Brue prodded at his wounds. She grumbled to him to hold still, then cast a bit of healing magic, channeling her energy into his injury.

OOC: [roll0] hp restored to Gnorth via a cure wounds spell with Brue's Life domain.

The party encamped on the sand for a rest; the waves lapping against the shore the only regular sound. Every once in a while, the cries of some exotic predator could be heard prowling the plains above the cliff. In the distance, limned in moonlight, a pod of dolphins swam several hundred meters from the shoreline. Their rest remained uninterrupted. All the while, the dark windows and closed door of the manor beckoned.

OOC: The short rest is successful, feel free to refresh any of your abilities that recharge on a short rest as well as spending any Hit Dice if you so choose.

Gnorth stared at the dolphins, amazed that creatures who needed to breath the air spent their time beneath the surface. His wounds healing due from Brue's spell, Gnorth couldn't help but wonder what it would be like if he had a blow hole and if the cleric's magic would incidentally close that too.

Granted, his mouth never closed shut after one of these spells, so he eventually dismissed this as a ridiculous thought.

Corilo stared at the sea, catching several glimpses of the dolphins. Having lived most of his life away from the sea, he'd never seen such creatures before. "What are those? They look...beautiful. And strange." he said, amazed.

Brue had seen dolphins before, if only recently. She understood Corilo's and Gnorth's awe. "They're something, aren't they. Dolphins, they're called. I'm told they're gentle." The genasi paused. She'd healed Gnorth a little, and was satisfied that her patchwork healing would be good enough to at least enable the stalwart half-orc to continue on for a while. Perhaps Lorenzo had a healing spell or two that he'd offer if some of the others proved more hurt than she realized.

Brue turned to the manse. "We haven't been inside yet, and I don't see that anyone's come to either the door or to look out a window. Curious, that. We let off an awful racket killing these ogres. I'd like to see what's inside the manor house. We came all this way, after all." She stood by and waited for the others to weigh in.

"I can conquer with that statement." Gnorth stood up, brushing sand and dirt off of himself. His body creaked a bit, but as per usual he blamed it on the salt in the air rather than the impending middle age he felt. "Let's see what them boys are hiding in there."

Lorenzo glanced at the ocean. Having made the long ocean voyage to and from Maztica, he was quite familiar with dolphins. "The Lady smiles on us," he said, "if dolphins are around, it means that sharks are likely not, which also means that there are likely no sahuagin in the area."

Gathering up his gear, he gestured toward the manor. "Let's see how far our luck will take us this evening."

Brue puzzled out Gnorth's statement. It took her a long minute, then she laughed when she worked it out. "Concurr. C-o-n-c-u-r-r. Conquer means you win. Though, maybe there's winning in concurring, too." The genasi slipped the magic maul from her belt loop and moved into position near the manor house.

OOC: Brue's misspelling is intentional (on my part). It's totally unintentional on her part. :D

With the party in tow, Brue approached the front door. Using the haft of her new stone maul, she rapped on the door and waited. After about a minute, it was quite clear that no one appeared to be home... or if they were, they had no plans to open the door. Glancing in the windows that flanked the door, Corilo reported back that the room inside was dark. Gnorth checked as well and, given his darkvision, reported back that the room appeared to be some kind of waiting room given that the walls were lined with settee couches. Otherwise, the room was empty.

Figuring she had given the occupants of the manor more than enough time to open up, Brue tried the door handle and was slightly surprised to find it unlocked. Pushing the door open, she stepped inside. When no trap was sprung, the rest of the team filtered inside the room. Given the majority of the party lacked the ability to see in darkness, Lorenzo conjured a light and applied it to one of the pauldrons of his armor. Likewise, Boddynock created his own light on the end of his staff.

With magical light illuminating the room, the party determined the room was modestly furnished with few decorations, but dust and cobwebs give the sense it had been disregarded for some time now. There was a shut door on the opposite side of the room.
