[D&D 5E] Securing the Alliance: An Adventure in Tethyr (IC)

Combat, Round 1

GM: Initiative
Corilo: 14
Lorenzo: 13
Gnorth: 12
Scheppen: 11
Brue: 9
Ogres: 9

The party had a surprise round. In that surprise round, the party managed to arrange and rearrange themselves to allow for Gnorth to cast his spell. I'm not sure what Egon's deal is, he's been on but not been posting, so I will post for Scheppen until he starts posting again. I placed Corilo and Boddynock off the map as there is no room for them. Scheppen has LOS into the cave, Corilo only has LOS to the cave mouth. Please check the list below to see who has actions pending.

Corilo: Readying an attack
Lorenzo: Cast shield of faith
Gnorth: Cast shatter; Ogre CON Saves (DC13): [roll0], [roll1], [roll2]
Scheppen: Cast Fire Bolt: [roll3], Damage: [roll4]
Brue: Readying an attack
Ogres: Surprised, no actions.

The party readied themselves for the attack. Lorenzo cast a spell of protection on himself, making him even more difficult to hit. Brue and Corilo readied themselves to attack any of the ogres in case they charged. Gnorth nodded to Boddynock as they both proceeded to cast spells into the cave. A loud explosion of sound issued forth slamming against the ogres. Their stout bodies, however, seemed to protect them from the worst of the shock wave. Almost as an afterthought, a bolt of flame flew from Scheppen's fingers and blasted into the lead ogre. Dazed, the ogres didn't do much in response aside from bellow in pain and anger.

OOC: Start of Round 2, please state your actions. Currently, only Scheppen and Gnorth can see into the interior of the cave, everyone else is limited to the cave mouth. Please note that Brue and Gnorth's icons are currently switched on the map. I'll fix that in post.

Corilo heard the ogres roar in frustration. Gnorth's spell got their attention, all right. Corilo drew his hand crossbow and patiently waited for a clear shot.

OOC: Corilo moves behind Lorenzo and readies his action to shoot the first ogre available.
Attack roll:[roll0]
Damage roll:[roll1]

In case of a miss, Corilo will use Gnorth's inspiration to improve his roll.
Inspiration roll:[roll2]

If the bolt ends up hitting, Corilo will use a superiority dice for the Trip maneuver: 1d8 extra damage; Strength Save DC 13 or prone.
Superiority extra damage:[roll3]

Round 2

GM: Initiative
Corilo: 14
Lorenzo: 13
Gnorth: 12
Scheppen: 11
Brue: 9
Ogres: 9

Corilo: Readying an attack (Already rolled, Inspiration was unneeded)
Lorenzo: Dodging
Gnorth: Delivers implements of ranged destruction to Brue and moves back into position.
Scheppen: Cast Fire Bolt: [roll0], Damage: [roll1] Fire Damage
Brue: Readying an attack (Already rolled)
Ogres: Charge mouth of the cave, Ogre1 will attack the most obvious target, Lorenzo. (Attack w/Daisadvantage: [roll2], [roll3], Damage: 2d8+4 Bludgeoning. The other ogres are unable to reach anyone else due to their companion and the terrain.

Roars of anger came from within the cave, Gnorth and Boddynock could see the large creatures turning to face the cave opening. Lorenzo whispered a prayer to Tymora to focus himself on avoiding the expected retaliation while Brue and Corilo prepared to attack as soon as the first ogre was within reach. Boddynock took a potshot with another fire bolt but missed badly and the magical flame splashed against the mouth of the cave. Gnorth moved over to Brue and deposited ranged weapons, expecting the ogres would be unable to exit the cave.

It was with some surprise as the lead ogre pushed his way through the mouth of the cave, squeezing through. Both Brue and Corilo responded, striking the creature solidly. Corilo aimed an expert shot at the ogres ankle, wounding it but not bringing it down. The ogre aimed a wild swing at Lorenzo and missed badly. The party could tell the creature was having a difficult time with the enclosed space of the cave mouth, a few wondered why the ogres would even set up shop there.

OOC: Start of Round 3, you all are free to post. Note: The ogre in the cave mouth is considered to be squeezing in a small space. As a result, it requires double movement for it to move in/through the space, it has disadvantage on attacks and Dexterity Saving throws. Finally, attacks have advantage against it. Please consider the aforementioned when rolling attacks.

Gnorth, seeing where this will be going, pulls out his long bow and a handful of arrows and brings it over to Brue.

"Aim for the nose, it is a weak spot." Gnorth grins before moving back into position.

OOC: Move: Pull out longbow and move to square adjacent to Brue. Action: pull out 10 arrows and hand them to Brue. Move back to original turn position

Brue dropped her greatsword and kicked it to the side where it wouldn't easily be tripped over or grasped by a foe. She accepted the longbow and arrows from Gnorth, tucking the arrows into her belt. They were awkwardly placed but would have to do for now. Stepping backward ten feet, Brue fitted an arrow to the bow's string and took aim.

Her arrow went badly astray. Brue frowned at the longbow. "There's a reason I favor steel over string."

[sblock=OOC]Item Interaction: Drop greatsword and kick it to the side
Move: 10' backward, keeping line of sight through the cave mouth to the ogre/s
Action: Attack with longbow [roll0] for [roll1] damage[/sblock]

As Brue moved back to fire, the ogre took a swipe at her with his greatclub. The club smashed against the wall of the cave mouth and missed the genasi.

GM: Opportunity Attack w/Disadvantage: [roll0], [roll1], Damage: [roll2]

Round 3

GM: Initiative
Corilo: 14
Lorenzo: 13
Gnorth: 12
Scheppen: 11
Brue: 9
Ogres: 9

Corilo: Fired two shots at Ogre1, hit for 18 piercing damage total
Lorenzo: Attacked & Missed, Tymora hates him right now
Gnorth: Hit Ogre1 for 12 points of bludgeoning damage, dropping it.
Scheppen: Cast Fire Bolt at Ogre2, hit for 5 fire damage.
Brue: Readied bow, moved and fired. Missed. OA against her missed as well.
Ogres: Ogre 1 is dead. Ogres 2 enters the space, kicking the body of Ogre 1 out of the way and attacks Lorenzo, but misses. Ogre 3 is unable to get to the fight due to the close quarters, but moves the body further out of the way and readies a few nasty looking javelins.

With the ogre blocking the doorway, Corilo had little chance of missing, feathering the creatures with two bolts from his hand crossbow. With all the advantages in the world, Lorenzo somehow managed to miss with a wild stab, his Lady apparently wanting to remind him that her blessings occasionally applied to others as well. With the ogre fascinated with the feathered bolt that peppered its hide, Gnorth moved in and turned his hammer backwards, jabbing the large creature in the gut with the haft of the hammer. As the creature doubled over gasping for air, the half-orc delivered a vicious uppercut to its chin with the head of his hammer. The ogre pitched over and fell to the ground. As the creature fell, Boddynock sent a bolt of fire into the cave, the attack was answered with a cry of pain. Seeing no targets available, Brue dropped the borrowed longbow and retrieved her greatsword, readying it for an attack.

She had to wait only a second as the next ogre lumbered into view. With a powerful slash, she carved into the creature. Angrily the ogre swiped at the closest target, Lorenzo, but failed to connect.
