"Aye, sounds like a plan. I'll go around back, you go through the front. If you see him, call out for me but don't wait. There's no telling what tricks that bastard may have up his sleeves... and who said anything about knocking?"

Greycastle grinned and made his way toward the rear of Vials' stone cottage.

[section]Brue waited for Greycastle to move behind the cottage, then walked on cat feet to the front door of Vials's cottage. She tried to be quiet, but the ring mail made it difficult; little clinks and clanks tailed her every step. She didn't bother to knock. She softly grasped the door's handle, and moved to open the door. If the door opened, she stood in the doorway, motionless, and had a good look around before venturing inside.[/section]

OOC: It's a stone structure. There isn't a lot of sound getting in our out. The wooden door is about the only place where you might hear anything.

Brue made her way to the door of the stone apothecary. She attempted to move as quietly as she could, but her new armor made it difficult. Ilmater's suffering, I need quiet, she thought, her hands moving unconsciously while words in an unknown language spilled from her mouth. The genasi was surprised to look down and see that the color of her skin and equipment had adapted to match the coloration of her surroundings. Furthermore, her armor was covered in a thin layer of dried mud, enough to muffle the sound it made to some degree.

Reaching the door, she put her ear to the door but couldn't tell if she heard noises or not. If so, they were very faint. When she tried the door, however, she could tell it was locked.

GM: Character Update: Brue knows the Primordial language. Brue has revealed her racial ability to Merge With Stone.

Brue was momentarily stymied by the locked front door. She cast an inquiring eye at the exterior of the cottage, trying to make out windows or other weaknesses she could pinpoint to gain entry.

OOC: Is there a window on the ground floor? If so, does Brue think she can fit through it? If not, how sturdy does the door look?

Brue didn't see any windows on the front of the building. From her recollection, there was a single, small circular window in the large room inside the apothecary on the rear wall of the building set about 10 feet up. The door looked to Brue to be a relatively standard door. She doesn't recall what the lock was like on the other side, but figured it wouldn't take all that much to break through if she put some effort into it.

[section]Brue snarled. The gnome might be just beyond the damn door, but she couldn't get to him until she could gain access to the cottage. Giving up for the moment on her idea to go through a window, Brue concentrated on kicking in the door. If that wouldn't work, she'd hack it down with her sword.[/section]

OOC: What kind of roll do you want? Here, for efficiency's sake I'll provide a straight-up Strength check and an Athletics check just in case.

OOC: Straight strength check, per the PHB

Brue planted her foot squarely where the locking mechanism was installed on the opposite side of the door. The door yielded under the onslaught and flew open, banging against the wall. Brue charged in, greatsword raised, but didn't immediately see anyone in the dim light provided by the small window and the now open door.

Papers were scattered around the room and there was a roaring fire burning in the fireplace. Quickly circling the room, Brue spotted a closed trapdoor in the floor in the corner of the room that she had not noted during her previous visits, likely due to the small rug laying turned upside down next to it.

[section]Brue slowed down. If Vials was here, it wouldn't do to barge straight to the trap door and leave herself open to attack from behind. She stepped inside the room, closed the front door, and cast a better look around the room. She moved to cross to the back of the cottage, to see if there was a door by which she might let in Greycastle.[/section]

OOC: No entrance, it looks like the front door is the only form of egress. Well, other than the chimney and the window, but those are out for letting Greycastle in to the building.

Brue looked around the room again, but did not notice anything she didn't pick up on her first glance through in the dim lighting.
