Hi.
I've recently started to explore (and compile in a Word doc) what I consider to be "D&D Archetypes". By that, I mean: monsters, races, magic items, spells. Starting with OD&D, I plan to make my way up to 4th Edition. When I'm done, I'll be able to observe how the concepts evolved (or not) from the very start to their latest incarnations.
How, for example, the goblin evolved, or the spell of "Magic Missile", or the "Deck of Many Things".
It all started with me wanting to inject a dose of "old school" into my current 4E campaign, but now I'm amazed at everything I'm seeing in OD&D stuff, things that were there, fully fleshed out, from the very start.
Has anything like that ever been done, to anybody's knowledge?
Anyway, if people are interested I'll try to keep you posted on my progress, findings, astonishments, and I'll eventually share what I end up with.
Regards,
Aimon
