Dang nabit, 25 bucks just to add 4 more kobolds to my tribe! What the heck am I going to do with 1 dire rat anyway? That rat better have levels of wizard or something to make it special. If not, redgar is going to use it like a football.

i think the expanded book will contain things like monster stats, spells, and equipment stats...maybe feats or skills explanation too.

i'm not sure it will contain character generation either... but it doesn't seem too hard to use the quick start character sheets as a template to make your own Basic character.

"The 64-page Expanded Rulebook also offers character generation rules, more detailed game play rules and guidelines for creating original adventures."

I have very fond memories of the original Red Box, Blue Box, Green Box, Black Box and Gold Box for Basic D&D.

This is where I started playing and then went onto AD&D at the tail-end of 1E.

What is the youngest age that WotC is targeting for this product?

Indeed, what's the youngest age for D&D players these days? Ten-years?

I introduced my young apprentice, Grace, to the game when she was 9. (She turned 11 a couple of weeks ago. :))

Cheers!

I plan on picking the Basic Rules up, just for the fact that I am a sucker for "Basic D&D." I still play out of the Rules Cyclopedia from time to time, and the memories of the Red Box still fill my dreams. However, I can only hope that this product is Waaaaaaay better then the "introduction to D&D" box set in the waning days of 2nd edition. Now that thing was a piece of crap.

I can only hope that the "rulebooks" that are included are along the lines of quality from the "red box" or better!

Here's hoping.
