D&D Beyond Adds Illrigger Class from MCDM

D&D Beyond has added the Illrigger class from MCDM, marking only the second time that the service has added a third party class made for D&D 5th edition. This week, D&D Beyond launched support for the Illrigger, an elite servant of hell with a versatile number of combat options. MCDM originally released the Illrigger class back in 2021 and revised the class in 2023. Both were made for 5th Edition rules and do not incorporate rules from the 2024 Core Rulebook updates.

The illrigger is a primarily martial class that can place seals on their enemy and burn them to deal additional damage. As agents of hell, illriggers are generally evil-aligned characters, but players aren't limited to a specific alignment. The illrigger ruleset on D&D Beyond comes with 5 different subclasses, as well as 8 new spells, and 2 new magic items.

Other than the illrigger, D&D Beyond also supports the Blood Hunter, a 5E class originally designed by Matt Mercer and used in Critical Role. While the Blood Hunter was released for free, the illrigger costs $14.99 on D&D Beyond.

Well, no, I haven't seen much indication that MCDM is, actually, paying better.
would have to look myself, but I believe Matt has said so himself in a video or two

And WotC has way more freelancers, on the art side
having more freelancers to produce more art across more books per year <> paying the freelancers better per piece.

I assume WotC spends more on art per year, given that they release 4 or 5 books to Matt’s 1 or so

Coleville says lots of things, and again I am sure he works to pay his people as best he can, I just tend to doubt that since everything I have ever heard is that WotC pays top dollar.

Right, they pay for a lot more work, but they also pay more for the work than anyone else in the space...Magic artists, in particular, are very well paid. That's why the best fantasy artists work with WotC all the time.

I may be misreading that freelancer post but I think it said the industry leaders (not just wotc but probably mostly wotc) paid 17 and MCDM says they pay 25 as a base. It's also worth noting that MCDM will pay about 25 for work they know is design heavy but word count light. They also pay for rewrites which not everyone does. So the actual average for them is probably higher than 25.

I can see them having a much higher base pay, Eben if WotC highest freelancer pay is top tier.
