D&D Essentials Live in Character Builder!

Interesting, the magic item rarities are in the update. And almost everything is uncommon. And the CB does not allow you to buy uncommon items (the buy button is greyed out). Makes it a bit harder to create a character at higher than 1st level. You have (item worth=lvl-1) gp to purchase equipment, but you can't spend it on anything...

Can't you just click 'add' then take away the cost amount from your gold manually? That would be the simple solution for now I would've thought.

Well, yeah, but it would be nicer if you didn't have to go add up the cost by hand... Honestly I think even for Essentials characters they should have an option to let you buy uncommon/rare items. There can easily be a flag to tell you it is houseruled but it seems to me it is going to be a common thing people want to do. Anyway, who knows, it may well be coming. This is obviously not the final complete last word on building in Essentials support.

Maybe you need to check the options if there is setting for that. (I don't know yet, don't have the update yet.)

I definitely agree that the inability to buy uncommon items is annoying. I very strongly want this to be an *option*, not forced on me so I have to change all my current campaigns to these new, less-than-efficient treasure rules :(

Additionally, I am also annoyed that every human character has now lost their third at-will, and I now have to go through and reselect it...

There are some items that should be common (the default for existing items was uncommon unless it says otherwise, and only a few items were made common ... I don't know of any rare items yet). I haven't checked out the DM kit, but I don't think th Rules Compendium had any info on how to treat building characters at higher levels interacting with the new rarity system. [I would guess the cash part would only be spent on common items, but for the three magic items you start with, does it allow one rare and two uncommons? Or only uncommons? Or is it tier dependent (heroic = all uncommon, paragon = 1 rare and 2 uncommon, epic = 2 rare and 1 uncommon), etc.
