D&D Gameday: Into the Shadowhaunt

MortalPlague

Adventurer
I was surprised to see a lack of threads on this (or perhaps my search-fu is weak?).

I'll be running this adventure for the D&D gameday on Saturday at the local gaming shop ('Home Video' in Port Coquitlam, if anyone knows where that is). I just picked up the module tonight to read it over and prep for the actual game.

Has anyone else read this module? Overall, I like it. It has a few very nice combat pieces and some clever twists and elements that make it more than simply a sequence of battles (though not much more, this is a Gameday adventure, after all). There are a few things that concern me, though.

Hilight for spoiilers:
The most challenging bit is the riddle in the first room. I consider myself a fairly clever person, and I couldn't even get it after reading the solution. The hints seem like an absolute necessity to understand it, and even then, it seems obtuse. Has anyone else found the riddle too tough?

Also, those animated statues are vicious!
End of spoiilers.

I'll be running this for a few of my players tomorrow to get a feel for things. I'll let you folks know how it turns out!

I'm running this next Saturday. I just phoned the FLGS I'm running it at to be told he won't get it until Wednesday. So count yourself lucky you've got it already!!!

Did you get the whole pack - does it have figures with it?

Figures are provided in the pack, as is the game's poster-map.

Yeah, kind of miffed our game store doesn't get it until the thurs. (read two days) before. So, I have two days to prepare :( Oh well, better than 0 days ;)

So, can anyone please give me more info please?
1) Figs included?
2) Any Extra stuff I need to run it?
3) Maps so if I already have them (repeats) I can pratice?

Thank You :)

First off: Thank you for putting plot related info in a spoiler block (I'm going to play the module, not DM so I was glad not to read the plot points - if this thread does have "open spoilers" (not spoiler blocked) added later, please edit the topic to reflect *spoiler* or something :) )

There has been one other thread about this general topic so far... mainly to talk about the pregens

Looks like they chose more classic classes and races, perhaps to make the transition easier for us old timers (be we players or DMs).

I ran this last night. Took an hour to go thru the rules. And 3 hours to run. Has player toons, Monster toons, And a map. I gave out some pencils and ink pens. And I had extra dice with me. I was amazed all 6 people had dice with them. [sblock]Yes the riddle is a pain in the ass.
I'd say have the riddle inscribed somewhere to start. As the players read it aloud have the shade appear.[/sblock]

Yes, I got it last night and read it this morning. It seems like a nice little intro to the system. I will be running it here in Charlotte next Saturday, and looking forward to my first D&D game in years!

I'm just a volunteer at the game shop, so I don't have the entire box (I left that behind). I just took the adventure book to read over and the sheet with the second part to it.

[sblock]I think I'm just going to write a new riddle that makes things a little easier, especially since I'll probably have younger players. Also, those last few encounters seem really tough, but this is just a one shot, so if characters perish in the final battle, it's not going to matter long-term.[/sblock]
