D&D General D&D ICONS OF THE REALMS PREMIUM FIGURES

Redvee

Villager
Hi, Does anyone have experience of buying the pre-painted D&D Icons of the Realms premium figures (by WizKids)?
The computer rendered images look great, but concerned about the quality of the paint job when ordering online.
I don't want to shell out extra on the pre-painted figures to find they look crappy. and could do a better quick paint job myself.
Any feedback would be helpful as I have no physical stores near me to view the product.

Nah, you just leave it open to be Necroed in about 5 years when someone swaggers in to say the quality has gone downhill…

(As an aside, I pretty much agree with the others - get a look at them in person and judge from there. I can paint better than these looks, but not having them sit around for 6 months before I get to them makes them worth it).

My opinion is the booster boxes are a better value per dollar than the "premium" minis. The paint jobs just aren't that much better, maybe a wash or additional highlight or color for basically 8 dollars more. The larger minis are hit or miss like the pre-painted dragons. They're much better than painting your own because of their size but some like the big white for Frostmaiden are just some black wash on basic plastic for $100 bucks. We buy the odd booster or brick here and there but avoid the single figures but the new Witchlight figures we may get a couple sets of since my wife wants to run it.

My wife got me a set for Christmas (best. wife. ever.). The paint job is horrendeous, but the models under the paint are actually pretty good. The dragonborn has scales that weren't visible under the thick coating of paint. I'm working on cleaning/chiseling/scraping the paint off and repainting. Hopefully, I can bring those details out.
