I wonder what would happen to the size of the D&D community if it started getting advertised in more popular magazines. It would be interesting to see. I don't see it happening anytime soon though.
Anyone know if D&D still advertises in comic books? I know that was one of the first ways I noticed the game. Those Forgotten Realms ads made me want to learn more.
After seeing the preview of the Boef, I wouldn't say we are talking the same caliber of model. I don't plan on buying the BoeF just to see differently, but the models on saw on the site (and the photographer's site) and the book preview looked disturbingly half-orcish. Not like half-orc women don't need lovin' too!

That's a very good question, and something I haven't thought about in years. I used to buy mostly single issues -- which tend to have ads in them -- whereas now I buy trades almost exclusively (and they don't have ads). I'm curious to know the answer.
Edit: staying on topic, I checked out the Scourge of Worlds preview DVD and found it to be mediocre. Decent CG, insipid plot and bad voice acting didn't add up to a very good experience, and I lost interest after about ten minutes. It's a neat idea, but not worth the money IMO.
My soon-to-be-7 yo son LOVED it. I enjoyed watching it with him. Now, it was just the demo, but I think he really enjoyed it mostly because "that's daddy's hobby" and he got to do something with daddy

I don't recall seeing any D&D ads in comic books lately. I do however often see ads for Magic the Gathering in the pages of comics. There was a recent Magic ad in the pages of Batman, which happens to be the top-selling comic in the industry at the moment.
