D&D Insider - Pay tomorrow for what you get today for free?

Anyone know if they actually plan to "charge" for the subscription?

Perhaps it's simply a subscription in a similar way that you subscribe to say, hotmail, or this site...

Just a way for them to tailor their marketing towards the people actually looking at it since you'll most likely have to give them a bunch of info about yourself.

The survey does ask about what you would pay for such a service.

Yes. For the most part.
So its perfectly ok to take what you want for free if you dont think you should pay for it?

Better question. And you're a publisher. Who judges what your product is worth?

Are you purposefully trying to goad me? I said that I believe the current content is good enough to put up free on the web but not of a quality for which I would pay. Are you accusing me of being a thief?

Consumers.

NO, if the company says its free you're not stealing. But, you, a publisher, is saying that someone elses product isn't worth buying. What if someone decided the same about your product?

Good. I think I'll leave things at that and walk away from this discussion. Feel free to start a new thread about your opinions on CMG products and solicit others to share theirs with you.

Shhh. Start a new thread, please. This one is about WotC and I wouldn't want it derailed on account of my excellent products. ;)

thats my point. I"m not dissing CMG ( i just downloaded a product the other day). I"m saying that if people like wotc products they should buy them, not think they are going to receive them for free because they bought others. Wotc produces the most polished and consistantly balanced products in d20 world. Obviously a lot of us think their products are worth paying for, and now that they want us to pay for it all, we're upset.

I have to agree with Mark here. The 4 page mini-adventures and little promotional items are nice little samples but I wouldn't pay for them.

Isn't that the entire idea of the samples anyway? When you go to Baskin-Robbins and they give you a spoonful of the flavor-of-the-month the premise is that these are supposed to convince you to buy the whole thing. I don't see B-R trying to launch a new business strategy of charging $5 a month for you to come in and get some free spoonfuls of their ice cream.
