Can't recommend this book enough on the subject:

Ryan goes into great detail about how easy it is to use social media to manipulate others, especially since journalists are stressed and just want quick and easy stories to post about.
As some one who did this kind of work in the army and still says current with the “industry” its awesome to see some one promote trust me in a non professional crisis comms or PR space. Its such a good look into how influence ops works IRL.

Just to be clear, you're not referring to the account that's listed as a "parody account" are you? If so, that would go a long way in explaining all the craziness, haha.

I have an X account, but no idea how to navigate around it. I just use it to read the posts and messages from direct links of others.

Edit: I've spent about 30 minutes attempting to find value in X using tags and checking out specific profiles and I can't make heads or tales out of who's a bot, what's parody, what's ironic, what's posted in bad faith to muddy a tag, and what is actually a sincere thought or feeling. What a mess! 😖
Like most of social media, it USED to be that it would show you the posts (and reposts) of the people you had specifically picked to follow. As time went on, the list of things the application would show you became more and more of a number game of "what posts will squeeze the most engagement (and therefore money) out of people, and what posts and ideas do we want to promote."

I honestly do not get it. Like when I go the official D&D page, why is 90% just clips of the old D&D cartoon? I would expect cool insights from the creators, anecdote of their games, upcoming projects, etc... Nope, just low tier memes and 3 seconds clips of a cartoon that's older than I am...

Well they need a constant stream of stuff. There’s only so many times Chris Perkins (or whoever is doing his job now) can give you an anecdote about his game. It’d just end up being vacuous influencer type stuff eventually. At least the cartoon is actual content.

I miss the days of receiving physical Dragon magazines in the mail.

Snarfquest FTW.

We're both old enough to remember back in the 00s when they were able to provide a steady stream of written content on the D&D website. Lore for both Forgotten Realms and Eberron (and maybe some Greyhawk too), previews and web enhancements for published books, DMing advice, poking at problem areas in the system and providing solutions, exploring new avenues of designing product (IIRC, the Delve format premiered there), stuff like that.
