I had thought that the D&D minis would remain free of the disgusting chase rare class of figs, but I guess it was too good to be true. This stinks beyond belief!

I think you are reading too much into this.

They have the same thing upcoming in the Underdark set. All it means is that some of the figures are going to have 2 stat cards allowing for two types of play. It doesn't mean that these figures are any more rare than the others.

Yeah, it doesn't read as a new rarity class to me, but I could be wrong.

Then again, if you are using them for D&D instead of the minis game (like I am), then there really isn't any big deal about it, it's just another 8 or so figs from the set that I'll never own.

The SW Minis use chase rares. The "elite" designation really makes me think they are moving to that model. Unfortunately, that would be too expensive a model for me to stay in the buying habit.

You know, after watching e-bay the last few days, I'm kinda leaning toward only buying off of the secondary market. When you can get sets of commons and uncommons as inexpensively as is being offered, it almost doesn't pay to get anything random...

Sure, you have to pay a bit more for the rares (usually), but at least you don't get stuck with as many of the crappy rares as when you buy a case (as I just did with Angelfire).

Let me say it simply:

They are not chase rares!

Instead they are rares that have two stat cards: one card shows the Skirmish stats for 200 point play (on one site) and Epic play (on the other side), the other card shows the RPG stats likewise.

AFAIK, Epic is the renamed 500 pt play, though it may allow more points beyond that.

They're Elite because of this property, not because of their rarity.

The sky is not falling. These are not chase rares. Read the description closely. They are figs with 2 cards instead of just the one for "epic" play. They are not ultra-rare figs.

I'm just buying the common sets from eBay now. $3 for the full common set for any release. I'll settle for that.
