D&D Minis: What's missing most?

I'd like to see some of the more esoteric bits come out as common figures in future sets.

Things that we'd use a lot of.

For example, githyanki and githizarai. Have common versions and then have uncommon commanders and unique leaders with special weapons and equipment. This mode would work well for many types of creatures, including slaad, and has been used to an extend with drow, orcs, goblins, hobgoblins, and other humanoids. Let's see them do the same with the weirder creatures.

I'd like to see a box set of just large figures. That would help allow things that are commonly used in groups like trolls, ogres, hill giants, etc..., to be used in numbers, and still allow unique figures or rare ones like frost giants, fire giants, or commander types to be used.

More dragons. Man, I've got like three t-rexes, three nightshades/walkers, whatever that thing is, three cloud giants, and no huge dragons. I'm hoping that the next set has more huge creautres that are more in use that fiendish t-rexes.

Golems: Need more constructs in general. I'd like to see character type figures move out in frequency and see more monstrous figures and using constructs would be a good way to do that for the forces of good, which often seem to have the most character types. Samurai dwarf rare by butt! I've got like four of 'em! Ugh!

We need an uncommon ogre with a greatclub. We have the uncommon basic troll finally, now we need the uncommon basic ogre. An ogre shaman would be nice too.

Winter wolves as an uncommon would be nice.

I agree, more dragons, especially Huge versions of all the basic dragons that haven't been covered yet, as well as Large black, green, gold, & white dragons.

Don't forget a large bronze; so far its the only subspecies that has only a wyrmling. We could also round out a set with a small brass, copper, silver, green and black.

How about some Small stuff? Faeries? Sprites? Familiars? Elementals? There's more wee stuff out there than halflings, gnomes, goblins & kobolds, ye know ...

I just want non-random assortment so I can get the minis that I actually want easily. I do not like the collectible nature of the minis because I only use them for D&D, not some miniature game.

No offense, but what the heck does this have to do with the original post? Maybe I woke up on the wrong side of the bed today, but I'm getting sick and tired of people whining about the random nature of the packs. Haven't people ever heard of ebay? If you don't like buying the packs, you can get exactly what you want from ebay.

Now... back to the forum topic...

I doubt you'll ever see a set that is all large figures. However, the most recent set had at least one large uncommon figure in every box. There were 8 large uncommons in that set. The next set, Underdark, will have the same guarantee. I think that's probably the best you can hope for with regard to Large creatures.

As much as I like monsters, there are a lot of pc classes and races that have yet to be done in minis. I would love to see more of those.

I'm not quite as keen on getting Huge figures as others are, but I can't deny that even if I don't use them for my game... they make great display pieces. :)

I can appreciate that but there are numerous companies, ranging from Dwarven Forge and Crystal Caste (em-4 Miniatures), that do prepainted stuff, as well as buying individually from E-bay.

This thread is more for the type of miniatures we'd like to see, not the assortment of 'em. I've got another thead for that! ;)

RPG wise I'ld like a uncommon large spider & common Medium spiders.

Common Medium spider is in the next set Underdark. They also have an uncommon Spider Swarm.

I was happy with the uncommon Ogre in Deathknell. I wouldn't want another so soon.

I would like to see the Demon and Devil MM contigent finished - with more uncommon larges (currently there isn't a single large uncommon demon or devil but there have also only been 10 uncommon larges in total).

Personally I like the limiting of 1 uncommon large per box that they have now. There are lots of medium and small critters I'd like to see like a dryad, pixie, rust monster etc.

Well they tried something like that with Chainmail and we all know was a mess that was. There is the D&D Basic Game boxed set that comes with 16 unrandomized miniatures (including 4 PCs and a Black Dragon). It also has maps and RPG stat cards for all of the figures in the box.

I doubt you will see many more unrandomized boxes in the future. It is the collectability factor that is driving the DDM sales now. Your best bet is the secondary market via a local games store, eBay and trading sites like www.maxminis.com .
