D&D Minis - Wow, these are tiny!

Yeah, I think these are supposed to be "true" 25mm, which is how it used to be back in the old days. Like people have said, most minis you find now (Warhammer, etc...) are 20mm or even bigger.

My thing is, I only want certain figures from this set, and from what I've seen of future sets, only certain figures from those too. The whole collectible randomness is fine, I can put up with it from Heroclix. But with D&D minis, it's annoying. What I hate about it is how a particular figure becomes super-expensive by itself, like above mentioned mind flayer. I just know the beholder, whenver it comes out, is gonna have the same happen to it.

I bought a box, and then bought another two days later. The bastards sucked me in. I haven't seen the posters with all the minis on them, so I don't know what I am going to get. It takes me back to MtG revised edition when every pack was a mystery. I am ashamed, but the "random factor" is very appealing to me... sigh

Too bad about the random

Unfortunately, the random thing is a deal breaker for me. I am on a tight budget (kids, mortgage, you know the drill) and I want specific minis for my games. I can't afford to buy a huge collection just for the ones I need. I guess I'll continue digging through the singles from other makers and using dice, beads, etc...

Buy minis your kids can pay for their own college degree. Food is optional. Haven't you heard all of America is overweight. Go buy minis. If not these then gopick up some Reaper.

Okay, I finally bought some minis. A starter and an expansion.

I'm hooked.

Yes, these do feel smaller than the Chainmail minis I have, but that's mostly just perception I think. I'll break out my CM figures later to compare.

Overall, I really like them. They don't have a lot of detail (especially in the face), but the paint jobs are decent. Did get a few duplicates I don't care for (Wood Elf Skirmisher and Human Commoner) and a duplicate I'm glad to get (Zombie). After all, you can never have enough undead. :D

My two big ones were an Owlbear and a Large Earth Elemental. Really nicely done figures.

So, I'll probably stop by the bookstore and get a couple more expansions soon. Hopefully I can get that gnoll... ;)

Yeah. because let's face it... we all want more than just one miniature with tentacly goodness!!!! It's a shame you can't just buy what you want.... looks like I'll be tracking down the Reaper mini "mindflayer" minis.... oh well :D

Also, I think one of the standard mini sizes is 25mm? or?

-W.

Not that I would want to wave you off from your FLGS, but you can order those Mind Flayer minis directly from Reaper's web site. I got mine in four days. :)
