D&D Needs WOW Players, Not Us

Does anyone else feel like their voice doesn't really matter?

Honestly? I've never felt that I've had a voice in those kind of decisions, and wouldn't even expect to*.

Perhaps the dialog with produces that the internet has allowed changes perspectives, and I'm still in the old days mindset of 'you can enjoy what is available, or write it yourself'!

It doesn't matter, but does it matter that it doesn't matter?

*unless, of course, I was working for one of those companies :)

"Why play this when I can just play WOW?" is exactly the question that WOTC has to beat to make 4E a commercial success.

Right. Which is why trying to appeal to WoW players is the wrong tactic. They need to appeal to people who are going to enjoy what D&D offers, whether they play WoW or not. Then their market isn't just "WoW players who would also enjoy D&D". It's "WoW & Final Fantasy & Guitar Hero & Madden players, & Harry Potter & Lord of the Rings & Star Wars fans, & CCG & mini players, et cetera ad nauseum who would enjoy D&D".

The question isn't how they can appeal to fans of X, but how what D&D has to offer is different from these other activities. You have to sell your product on its own strengths, not by trying to co-opt & ride the coat-tails of another products strengths.
