D&D Online gets an upgrade

Until they let you hang out with your friends and tell your own stories it will never be DnD.

Right now it sounds like it doesn’t offer much in terms of being a video game for the casual player either. (For the record WoW was in development for years before they even pushed it into beta… It’ll be a long time before this game gets polished to anywhere near the level WoW was out of beta)

I would contend that wow's beta wasn't a beta. It was actually a massive advertising/free play time. The game was essentially done. It worked though, so good for them.

One of my complaints about DDO for a long time is that it was too easy. Quests like Stormcleave can be completed by parties of level 4 and 5s ONLY, but they claim it is a level 8 quest. It should be 7 at BEST, and maybe even 6.

In any case, I still love DDO way more than most "standard" MMOs which bore the crap out of me. :)

I agree with pretty much everything in your post, but YOU ARE BIASED! :p

That said, I'm really looking forward to the next module, raising the level cap, adding adventures, and finally EMAIL!

(Please stop the DDO hate. Negativity is not sexy.)

Looks interesting… But I refuse to buy anything I must remain connected to the internet to play.

You'd better get used to it. It is the prevailing norm in most of the new copy protection schemes in the industry. And I'm not in the least bit apologetic about it either.

We'll be using it in our next non-NWN release too. If that means we don't have people like you as a customer...then we don't. We'll have others that will make up for the few losses. Given the efficacy of the protection scheme, it is MORE than worth it.

Sorry to hijak your thread, but i guess it's along the same lines as your thread since it does involve online massive multi player games.

NeverWinter Nights also got an upgrade.

And the graphics look killer.

but don't bereve me. Observe comoshero These shots are from actual game play

Meh. That stuff was easy :) (though thanks for the compliments  ).

The real graphical upgrade is coming next month. The ID bosses are just an appetizer.

The original stupid "insert CD to play" scheme didn't work with my DVD+/-RW drive. I had to install cracks to play several games.

If the online thingy actually works and doesn't require a crack just to play what I bought, I'll be happier.

Biased because of my prefered play style, or biased because I'm a Turbine employee? :) I have admitted on this forum that I am a Turbine employee, though not in what capacity. Unfortunately this means I can't reveal what server I play on or who my characters are, so as much as I'd love to play with some of you guys, I can't organize it.

You'll note most of my DDO posts say 'they'. I use that to avoid naming names or clarifying my own position. Also before anyone asks, I can not tell you anything interesting about the next module other than what has already been announced. What I can and will talk about is the game from my perspective as a player with one nearly capped character (10.3 cleric) and a few mid level characters (6.2 paladin, 5.2 rogue, 4.2 wizard)

Pretty much the same here, I have a cleric 7 (on thrashk) a capped rogue 10, cleric 7.3, fighter 5.2, bard/sorc 1/2. I didn't start at launch, nor beta, but have been playing for a little while and am happy to help with any questions, etc. Member of a couple guilds.

We lost our meet-up DDO thread when the server crashed :(
