The Dungeons & Dragons 2024 Player's Handbook will be officially out in the wild on Thursday, August 1st, with the first for-sale copies available at Gen Con Indy. Here's when YOU can get it!
Neither am I, and its WotC decisions with early releases, exclusive DDB releases, and their minimal regular annual releases that keep pushing me further away from D&D. Honestly, I'm kind of glad in a way for this Aug 1st pre-release as I'm guessing actual reviews will finally convince me to not buy the 5E RevisionI’m not a fan of seeing the month and a half delay between first people able to buy and me. Like I’m good with a small early release window, but that’s crazy.
I get it. I still don’t like it.Ah, most of that is WotC just wanting to have a presence at GenCon. It's not ideal, but ideally they'd have been able to do the full release at GenCon. They're not holding back the books for the latest date - they're madly printing them to have them available for that date.
They'd originally wanted to put all three books out together, too, but they found that no printer could handle the print runs that they wanted, so the staggered release of the books is down to the time it takes to print them all.
You can get one two weeks early at a hobby store at least! Not an option for many!I get it. I still don’t like it.
Yeah, that's fair. Like I said, I don't think anyone (WotC included) thinks that it's ideal.I get it. I still don’t like it.
If I decide to go through with the purchase which I'm still on the fence about, but I pre-ordered all 3 on Amazon with the hopes that the price drops (which it usually does before the release) enough that even if I don't like it and don't play it, I can justify the cost for curiosities sake.I'll pick it up off Amazon I expect.
Exactly! Its so rare we are ever in this much agreement. I must ask, are you a 2024 doppleganger? You can get one two weeks early at a hobby store at least! Not an option for many!
I don't mind particularly, but then I've kinda been on the peripheral of a lot of the hype this time round. I'll pick it up off Amazon I expect. The bit I'll miss is not being able to participate in the launch buzz/excitement, talking about it with my friends online who have it--by the time I get it, the release buzz will be two months in the past. But first world problems, eh?
I don't think WotC is paying anyone to do reviews. People are happy to do so for free.So thursday the embargo on reviews lift and we will be hit with the paid reviews.
I'm sure they would love for you to pre-order the digital versionGiving US/Canada hobby stores a 2 week head start is just plain discriminatory against the rest of the world, where most people live. WotC needs to do better.
