The Auld Grump
Wasn't that Randy Newman?

Anyway, Dwarves gotta go. Since it has now been definitively established that Dwarven women have beards, I just can't stand to have them around anymore.

*toddles off to see his analyst*

:D

All the other races are characterized by their contrast to humans. In a world without humans, we'd probably end up playing everyone else just like humans, because we best understand their racial peculiarities by comparison to humans. So we might as well keep humans.

Maybe I'm just biased, because I am human myself.

Finally, the dwarves cannot hide behind aeons-old hatred aimed at other races. Everyone with one or more of the words "stone", "iron (or other metal)", "axe (or maybe hammer, if you find a progressive one)", or "beard" in their names: Please take your seat on yonder boats. And never mind that the seats look like kegs of smoke powder, that's just decoration. And for those who are the last surviving members of their clans: Reunion's ahead.

I've said it before and I'll say it again--without humans, there's no one for the audience (which is, for the most part, human themselves) to relate to. Too many people make characters that are defined by their race. With only humans, you are forced to create deep characters, not some beer-swilling sociopath with an inexplicable Scottish accent.

Darn skippy. But I also disapprove of the plethora of bonuses that are given to stock dwarven fighters in 3.5e which does no good for other dwarven careers -- which reinforces the reasoning that I disapprove of them because it's too easy to make a shallow character with 'em.
