All those people who say "elves and halflings are horrible RP choices/stereotypes" need to focus their laser-like gaze upon the dwarves; a race comprised entirely of faux-Scottish-accent-speaking, ale-quaffing, horned-helmet-wearing, my-clan-was-killed-by-orcs-revengifying sociopaths.

A +2 CON and -2 CHA? How is that remotely balanced? Maybe if they didn't get a +2 to save vs spells/SLA/poison or darkvision. And a -2 CHA because they are gruff?!?!? I would say a -2 CHA because they have no personality of their own so have to borrow it from Gimli.

Wait, so let me get this straight. Elves have longer generations than anyone else, they are less numerous than most races, and they have the most variety? Something doesn't fit here. With fewer generations in a given timespan they should be deviating less from the base stock, not more.

Plus, with all the variety, there's an Elven subrace that's the best for most concepts, making them wildly overpowered.

Eloquent? For dwarven standards. But sentences with more than 3 words are always eloquent by dwarven standards.

That single dwarf race is worse than all elven races together (not to mention that dwarves are the number two when it comes to number of subraces)

The -2 is actually a boon to them. That way, the powergamers have an excuse for crappy performance in social situations, and they think they won't be questioned when they put every resource they got into maximizing attack and damage with your axe of choice.

Almost no one I know plays one.

I have seen several dwarves played. Coincidently, it was always the group's worst powergame who played them.

Dwarf seems to me to be the only non-human race which is never banned from any game. There are many elf-haters, halfling-haters, gnome-haters and half-races-haters, but few dwarf-haters.

I would point out Forrester's lecture "The Aelvish Problem" but, unfortunately, it no longer exists in a web page...

The "gentle"man above would be surprised to find such a "straight" assesment of his race in that lecture.
