Hooray, another book about dragons... :(

One Dragon book all year for Dungeons and Dragons is excessive?

Besides, it's an Eberron book with Keith Baker as the author of record, and therefore it must be bought :)

Anyone else think that the title's going to change to something completely different?
Oh... or, otherwise, it's a compilation of feats and alternate skill uses.

I think a Rules Compendium is a great idea.

For those who don't like the proliferation of new rules: Don't buy it.

For those who don't like the proliferation of new rules across 35 splatbooks: Well, maybe this is a good idea.

It'll certainly be fascinating to see what is actually included in this book. My best guess, based on nothing but what I've read in this thread, is that it will include feats, but only the feats the R&D crew feel are positive additions to the game as a whole (and thus not anything designed for only specific settings or unusual styles of play). I'd geuss it'll also have what they feel are the best other rules systems of the past few years, certainly including things from non "Complete" books.

I think this is more a sign that the Spell Compendium made a lot of money.

Think about how much better the spell compendium would be if it also repeated the spells in the PHB, though.

For some reason, I have a feeling this thing is going to be more along the lines of 1E's Unearthed Arcana....a compilation of rules/options that are now considered CORE and part of the standard rules.

That is the feeling I get also. Would love it if that is what it is.

Rules Compendium = Updated FAQ/rules clarification + with a bit of gravy to make it palatable.

Here’s the thing with a “feats” book. The only reason to buy most of these books that WotC is churning out is for one or two specific feats that support your character’s build.
Want a decent melee Warlock? Need to buy Dragon Magic.
Want a decent fighter? Need to buy PhB II.
Want to min-max? Book of Exalted

Putting all that together in one book would destroy profits.

A rules compendium that combined some of Unearthed Arcana (all the alterna-classes and extra class features that everyone uses), extra skill uses, and an updated verision of some of the more confusing or poorly worded feat-combinations along with some “new rules” and a couple of new feats or alternative class features (maybe support for some of the semi-popular new systems like warlock or psionics).

This is probably going to be similar to the MMIV in that it’s more for “newbie DMs” who are drowning in supplements.
