D&D Tactics Sounds Good!

I really liked ToEE. If you download the three patches and know how to get to the dungeons, ignoring Hommlet, it's a great 3.5 combat game.

Aw, man. Finally, a true, turn-based D&D CRPG . . . and it's for a freaking console. Man, do I miss those old SSI Gold Box games...

Actually, it's for a freaking PORTABLE.

Anyway, almost all turn-based games are on consoles - or portables - nowadays. If you're interested in gameplay reminiscent of the classic Gold Box games, your best bet is to look into console Tactics/RPGs.

Offhand, I don't think any of them are as challenging as Pools of Darkness, but the best are on par with the other Gold Box games. Of course, until D&D Tactics, they didn't have the D&D license...

The portable thing might be best... especially if they can be networked. Could be a fun group activity.

Eye of the Beholder for Gameboy Advance was already a grid-based tactical game that allowed for AoOs, move/standard/full round actions and the like. It was pretty unpopular, so you could probably buy it for your DS for inexpensive.

This really needs to come out for the DS, I don't think I can really justify buying a PSP for one game.

Yeah, Gameboy's been where the Tactics genre has lived for years.

This might get me to take my (friend's used) DS out of its box.

Portables aren't consoles, now? I say if I can't do my taxes on it...

Anyway, I've been contemplating picking up a DS or a PSP for a while, now, but I'd feel retarded buying a handheld that I'd only ever play at home. I just haven't got a lot of sitting-around-and-waiting time in my life, and I already need that if I'm ever gonna read any novels.

...But, damn, I would love a turn-based D&D CRPG so much more than this pause-and-give-orders-and-hope-the-AI-doesn't-do-something-stupid business I'm doing in NWN2. (God damn it, Obnoxious Druid, stop turning into a badger! Badgers can't carry all the loot I've loaded you down with!)
