Anyways, I think Wild Mage is irrelevant, since Wild Mage does not change the character's caster level (the permanent one, that is).

Hmm?

"For example, an 8th level sorcerer / 1st level wild mage has a base caster level of 6th, not 9th..."

Yep, it isn't explicitly stated, but it should be obvious, that the class can only advance those classes, which are sufficient to fulfill the requirement.

I agree with FireLance - if you can cast 3rd level arcane spells, you can enter the class. If you have more than one arcane spellcasting class, you pick which one Sublime Chord adds to. You can supply the requirement with one and add Sublime Chord to the other, no problem.

#4. Sorcerer, level 3.

Scroll of Binding
Scroll of Dimensional Anchor

Call a Noble Djinn. Have it Wish you a new sword.

Many, many things could go wrong with this, of course - you'll need lucky rolls and a permissive DM. But it is technically legal.

#5. The most reliable high-AC character - no level checks needed to activate scrolls, and has got the minimum Intelligence (11) necessary to activate the arcane scrolls without having to make Use Magic Device checks to emulate an ability score.

Halfling Cleric 1 (Magic domain)/Monk 1.
32-point buy statistics - Str 6 (8 -2 racial), Dex 18 (16 +2 racial), Con 10, Int 12, Wis 18, Cha 8.
Feat: Dodge
Skills: 5 ranks of Tumble
Gear: scroll of mage armor (25 gp), scroll of shield (25 gp), scroll of reduce person (25 gp), potion of barkskin +2 (300 gp), potion of owl's wisdom (300 gp), Total 675 gp

After casting shield of faith and using all items, he has the following statistics:
Tiny Humanoid (halfling), Str 4 (8 -2 racial, -2 size), Dex 20 (16 +2 racial, +2 size), Con 10, Int 12, Wis 22 (18 +4 enhancement), Cha 8.
AC 10 +2 (size), +5 (Dex), +6 (Wis), +4 armor, +4 shield, +2 deflection, +2 natural = 35
If he takes the total defence action, he gains a +6 dodge bonus for AC 41, 42 against his dodge target.

The riskier version has the following gear: scroll of mage armor (25 gp), scroll of shield (25 gp), scroll of reduce person (25 gp), scroll of alter self (150 gp), scroll of cat's grace (150 gp), scroll of owl's wisdom (150 gp), potion of barkskin +2 (300 gp), Total 825 gp

Since he has the necessary Intelligence or Wisdom to activate the 2nd-level scrolls, he only needs to make a DC 4 caster level check to activate each of them. Since his divine caster level and his effective arcane caster level are both 1, he has a 90% chance of activating each scroll (3 to 20 on d20).

Assuming he succeeds at activating all the scrolls (72.9% chance), and casts shield of faith, he has the following statistics:
Small Humanoid (halfling, troglogyte form), Str 4 (8 -2 racial, -2 size), Dex 24 (16 +2 racial, +2 size, +4 enhancement), Con 10, Int 12, Wis 22 (18 +4 enhancement), Cha 8.
AC 10 +1 (size), +7 (Dex), +6 (Wis), +4 armor, +4 shield, +2 deflection, +8 natural = 42
If he takes the total defence action, he gains a +6 dodge bonus for AC 48, 49 against his dodge target.
To avoid arguments, assume that he activated the scroll of alter self before he activated the scroll of reduce person (since alter self changes size) and drank the potion of barkskin.

Hmm!

"She reduces her caster level by 3 for all spells she casts from now on."

It only applies to spellcasting not anything else (i.e. item creation or prerequisites), so the caster level is basically unchanged and only temporarily modified during spellcasting.

And taking a class giving its bonus to one of your other classes which does not fullfit the criteria.. is like.. knowing abit about math.. and abit about football... Study for Astronomer.. and somehow.. its the football part you've improved...

Might work for intergalactic football playing.. but really...

No, it's more like needing to know enough about maths to pass the entrance exam for a school which offers classes in both maths and football (but not both). If you pass the exam, you get to attend the school, and you can choose which class you take.

Similarly, I don't see anything prohibiting a Wiz5/Rog3/Clr1 taking levels in Arcane Trickster, and adding his "+1 level of existing class" from ArT to his Cleric class. The 'Spells per Day' section allows him to add to one spellcasting class he belonged to before joining the PrC. It doesn't specify 'one arcane spellcasting class', nor does it specify 'one class from which he could cast a 3rd level arcane spell before joining the PrC'. Cleric is a spellcasting class he belonged to before joining the PrC; it fits all the requirements of the ArT's 'Spells per Day' feature.

I do recall having read that restriction somewhere (that you can only advance a class, that fulfills the appropriate prerequisite), actually, which was why I brought it up in the first place (apart from being the logical course to follow), but unfortunately I cannot recall where. Maybe the 3.0 FAQ?
