Get so many Shadowdark conversations going that it overwhelms the variants subforum.Id like to see a dedicated subforum for shadowdark. Because Discord sucks.

it is not even using a d20 as its core resolution mechanic, I'd say anything that does not falls outside a D&D variantI would absolutely describe it as a 4e variant
d12s, (on the player side) I agree with the restI thought it used d6s? I don't think any D&D variant can renounce the D20 and still be a D&D variant?
Where would you discuss topics equally applicable to a variety of 5e-based games, including WotC's?
With a huge overlap. Just look at WotC 5.0 and A5e. Most topics that apply to the former will apply to the latter as well, and the same is true for TotV, for example.Like what? They are all individual rule sets.

Both Kobold Press and EN Publishing explicitly mention their compatibility with 5e.I would hope that those other versions fix issues or come at things in a different way, to the point the differences matter enough to make discussion distinct.
But those two versions are discussed in the same forum.Even 5.5 is different enough that its a different thing, from early 5.0

A discussion about different approaches to nature & nurture throughout the wider 5e and other D&D games would belong where?I would hope that those other versions fix issues or come at things in a different way, to the point the differences matter enough to make discussion distinct.

Saying it's only for variants ignores that I can use a ToV Halfling and a 2024 Halfling and Level Up Halfling and a 2014 Halfling all at the same table
Why would I empower my players to make the best choices for their character they want to play? Because I like playing with them.A better DM than me, but regardless a ToV Halfling vs a 2024 Halfling, vs a LU Halfling...yeah sure you could do it....but why?
