D&D -vs- SWRPG: the commoner

For those of you that have it, how do you like the way the Commoner (and by extention, the Game Master Character Classes) in Star Wars are handled as opposed to the NPC Character Classes in D&D?

It certainly stops the trouble with the Arch-Peasant in its tracks.

It's ok. It's not like the arch peasant is a real problem in any case. I know, a 10th level peasant can kick butt on a 1st level fighter. But if the peasant's got the exp to get to 10th level, he should be able to. Since most of the time for non-combat NPC's I never even give classes it's never an issue for me. If the PC's decide to attack the bookish scholar looking up information on Naga for them, they won't even need a combat to kill him.

Yes, I do like how it's done. But that's really a function of the VP/WP feature more than anything else, IMO.

Then again, and I know this isn't the point of the thread, I like the SWRPG better than D&D overall. It's the same system, but more refined, IMO. I also prefer the refinements to the system in the WOTRPG over standard D&D. Same feel as D&D, but the mechanics hold together much better, IMO. And they don't lead to the overall level of "superheroics" that lead to all the recurring debates with the plausibility of the standard D&D campaign setting.
