D&D's October Product Revealed to Be Stranger Things Tie-In

This D&D Beyond article makes it seem like this is very much in the mold of Heroes of the Borderlands. It'd be interesting to see how much overlap there is in monsters, spells and equipment cards, for those looking to expand the offerings in Borderlands.

I do quibble, though, with the idea that Eddie would have various Demogorgon monsters in his game, but I guess you gotta give the TV audience what it presumably wants.
Justice said in an interview that it wasn’t intended to be directly comparable with the HotB set. Except that they are both 5e.

I imagine we'll get more detailed previews in the new future. The bullet point version does make it seem very similar.

More broadly, if this means their plan is to go with physical components for starter sets generally, I love it. (Just received Borderlands last night and am in the process of setting up running it for three different groups, including one that's largely newbies.)

I def want more poster maps. Another folder of them would be nice, especially for exiting or the next adventures.

I hope the Stranger Things video game is only released on the Magnavox Odyssey 2
NOOOO! It must be released for Intellivision, like the real D&D video games were!

I passed on the last Stranger Things starter set, but this one has my interests. After having picked up Heroes of the Borderlands I'm curious to see if the entire tone of this set will different and if they will an old-school lean (like Goodman's Original Adventures Incarnated) into the contents or it will just stop at dressing it up to looks like an 80's metal* release.

* Which, oddly enough, I always despised Heavy Metal and its ilk in the 80s.

It also has the second official D&D 2024 screen, which is interesting, although I suspect it won't be made of the same sturdy stuff as the standalone one is.

I miss the days of actually USING a DM's screen for things other than just hiding my notes. The 1E DM "pinball" screen got so much use, and it was all downhill from there. I don't think I've actually consulted anything on a DM's screen late 3.5E, though I still end up collecting them. I've even tried ones where you print out custom sheets and I haven't found a match for that old screen in terms of utility.

Nothing was better than the Hackmaster GM screen. The picture on the front even changed as you flipped more panels to the GM side!

Well, the 1E screen had the to-hit and saving throw tables. You needed a screen unless you wanted to keep flipping through the DMG constantly.

WotC D&D, thankfully, has gone with a unified resolution system, which gets rid of most of the real estate of the AD&D screens.

I still have fondness for that first amazing screen -- and would love it if WotC republished their 5E screen with the 1E art -- but I'd rather have a world where a screen is an optional purchase, rather than essentially a necessity.
