D1: Ashin's Commission (El Jefe judging)

Michael acknowledges the courtesy with a nod.
"Thank you."
I bet I get to feel guilty about this later, somehow.

He offers the boots to the sargeant. "I have your boots here, gentlemen. I have a little more healing for one person as well."

He pauses to think a moment.
"And if you'll accept the loan of my horse and a shoulder, I'll help you back to camp tonight. Thank you for your trust in permitting me to make this right immediately."
Michael lays a faint stress on the "immediately".
Before somebody changes their mind.

(OOC: Michael has one soundburst he can convert to healing, so one person's going to be in great shape. Sadly, domain spells cannot be converted into healing, so after that he's dry. But if things go wrong, he'll need enlarge and bull's strength.)

No sergeant being present, Corporal Moar accepted the boots. "Thank you, Brother Michael", he acknowledged with a curt nod.

All three seemed eager to accept the invitation, although it wasn't clear whether they did so out of a desire to avoid punishment for deserting their posts, a desire to partake of the delicious camp food that awaited them, or a desire to avoid any more contact with Zaeryl.

OoC: Private Khulig has had his bell rung quite well, although all of that is subdual damage that will be cured by a good night's sleep. Sela's healing magic has been quite kind to the others...neither is at full strength, but "Squatter's" remaining nicks and cuts, and Moar's reddened skin will easily heal in a day or two at most.

(OOC: I keep forgetting he's a corporal: you'd think the fact I can spell corporal would help me keep that straight.)

Michael identifies someone comfortable with recieving more healing: hopefully there's enough trust built up now this doesn't need to be discussed. His preference is for the heaviest soldier.
Michael converts his sound burst into healing and casts it on that soldier while everyone gets their boots on.

After that, figuring they've not had anything to eat all day, he passes out his store of dried trail food, which is not a meal for anyone, but it's better than nothing. A drink of water follows.

Then he sets the shakiest looking person on the demon horse and moves everyone out. He has two or three torches if there's not enough moonlight.

"Corporal Moar, you'll have to direct me back towards your camp."

Eternity stands with the others and passively watches as Michael helps the soldiers to their feat. She'll wait till he and the soldiers are well out of earshot before turning to her remaining companions.

Ironwolf gets his gear together, giving his psicrystal some parting instructions as he does so. He wants to be ready to get moving, hoping the rest of the group feels the same way.

There didn't seem to be a clear choice, since Moar and "Squatter" were more spry but their remaining wounds wouldn't heal for a couple of days. Khulig was woozy, but regaining his strength would take hours, not days.

Michael decided to bestow Sela's blessing on "Squatter", who was clearly restored to full health.

Clearly, that was Khulig, who seemed grateful for the ride. Moar glanced back at the valley below them, then down into the canyon beside them. "Looks like it's that way", he observed, pointing at an angle to the direction the group had been traveling and down into the canyon.[sblock=Michael: ]The three soldiers led Michael down and into the canyon as the sun slowly sank behind the ridge that the rest of the party had been climbing.

OoC: Anything you want to do or say with these three in the next half hour or so?[/sblock][sblock=Almayce, Eternity, Hulgyr, Ironwolf, Zaeryl: ]The group watched Michael and the soldiers descend into the canyon, only to start climbing gradually along it's length as they neared the canyon floor. Eternity guessed that they had maybe another hour of daylight before they'd have to stop for the night. Without the dead weight of the unconscious soldiers slowing the mounts, it seemed that they would make better time over that last hour, if they wished.[/sblock]

[sblock=AEHIZ]"So are we really headed in there? almost feels like we should go home, but I'd hate to see this 'disease' spread because of us." says Eternity as she gets Kailie ready.[/sblock]

Michael
[sp]
Michael mostly stays focused on ensuring everybody can move on safely. He does not discourage conversation, however: in fact, he'd love for them to talk amongst themselves enough for him to find a conversational opening.

He will have to talk to them when their camp/stockade heaves in sight, however. Michael expects to have a little warning, either from seeing fire or hearing camp noise.

With his luck, though, they'll probably run on a picket line.

[sblock=Michael: ]Michael did run on a picket line, of sorts. Actually, he began to recognize the land as the area where they first captured the three soldiers, at the little checkpoint on the path. The sun had just set when they neared it, and Michael could make out several other soldiers now manning the makeshift barricade.

OoC: In the dark, you could ask Khulig to get off your horse and hightail it out of here. You are clearly outnumbered...the "relief" force is clearly larger than the three you are leading.[/sblock]

Figures. Sela, watch over your servants.

Michael holds up the group for a moment and speaks low.

"Corporal Moar, you and your men don't owe me anything, but I'd like to help here. I'd like to go have a look and talk with the clerics at the stockade, but I'd also like to not get hung or imprisoned for banditry. If I walk you into your lines, can we arrange those things to happen, or do I need to impose on Private Khulig to walk in while I ride like mad?"

(Edited for clarity and to ensure both halves of the compound clause are referenced.)
