D1: Ashin's Commission (El Jefe judging)

"I wouldnt be so hasty to assume they are evil, but I do agree that we should seek out our primary target first. We can find out what they are up to later." replies Eternity.

"Them soldiers can be trouble. If you two go alone, Hulgyr can't protect you. Is a bad plan!"

-edit-
ooc: doghead: a question about the XP allocation: didn't the fight with the shadow end in june? or did you calculate that xp in may? Nevermind.. i seem to be just as smart as Hulgyr.

Mikal confirms that the party wants to avoid Kinthriver and the soldiers if possible.

"Right then, we'll go east for a bit more, then turn up to meet the Duvik road where it enters the mountains. Its a good enough road, esay enough to find I guess. Bit of a climb though. So I heard.

"Probably some time day after tomorrow, we should get there. I'll push off then as well. Been away long enough as it is. And can't really help you much past that. Never been that way myself."

When everyone is ready, Mikal sets off, taking the lead as usual.

Riding along on the trail beside Mikal, Ironwolf looks up at the mountain.

What secrets do you hold? Are you the home of some sort of devillry, or is that all just an excuse for greedy men to enslave their neighbors?

"Thank you for your help, Mikal. I appreciate it."

--- THE BAINLUNDER HILLS ---

- ooc -
A little hasty on the goodbyes; the party is still a couple of days from the base of the hills. Mikal was just pointing out that if the party wants to visit Kinthriver, they would need to take a different direction from here. But that being said, we can move ahead to said moment.

Mikal heads off once more, but this time the route he takes is more circumspect, and a little more difficult, He sticks to the valleys and the low areas to keep from being seen, ass well as taking the party through a number of small woodland regions. It seems to work however, and two days later, the land has become more hilly, and the mountains of Stonepike have grown to dominate the landscape.

It is a little after noon when Mikal pullls up.

"The path to Duvik is about a mile or so down that way," he says, pointing down the valley you have just entered. The path follows a river up into the Duvik valley, so it should be easy enough to pick up. I don't know of any other paths around here."

"I'm going to leave you now. With luckthere are still a few miles left in the day before night falls. The Hoose farm lies south of here. A soft bed and a hot meal would be a nice change."

After all the goodbyes are said, Mikal turns to leave. But he stops and turns back.

"The Brothers of Stone call the Stonepike mountains home. They are good people, generous and kind. But the mountains are full of dangers and the Brothers tend to be wary and cautious around strangers.

"There are no clan holds near Duvik, the Brothers tend to keep their distance from humans. So I don't expect that you will run across any. But remember, they have been fighting the orcs for centuries," he adds carefully, "So do not be too offended if they are a little cool towards you if you do meet. Tell them that Mikal of Bainlunder lodge has brought you across the Hills, and that he wishes you the best. And show them this."

Mikal pulls a medalion from around his neck and hands it to Eternity with a small smile.

"Hopefully it will allay their concerns."

We come in peace...prepare to kill

Michael cocks an eyebrow at Mikal and Eternity.
Huh...

Bemused, he attempts to guide his horse towards Ironwolf with his knees. The horse ignores him. Finally, he dismounts and walks over to Ironwolf.
"You know, I can't help but notice the general lack of both demons and undead."
By reflex, his hand dips into his belt pouch, draws out a stone, and begins polishing it.
This appears, remarkably, to be a new stone.
His other hand beckons Aylmace and Hulgyr, then, after a pause, Zaeryl.
"Aylmace, you and Zaeryl may be on to something. I can't help but think an outpost of demonic evil and death would be more sulfurous and rotten smelling and less...pretty."
Michael pauses to admire the view. (ooc: which I understand to be clear of pyres, tormented souls, and the other things traditional to demons and necromancers)
"Ironwolf, how far can your...ummm...thingummy scout?"
Michael flaps his hand in the general direction of Ironwolf's psicrystal.

"Unless Duvik is now a ghost town of course. And there's the silver mine too for the whatever monsters - if they exist - to hide.", Almayce says and shrugs. "We'll see when we get there. But the military presence certainly seems way too convenient."

Michael flaps his hand in the general direction of Ironwolf's psicrystal.

"It's range isn't exactly limited, but I prefer to have it stay within a mile of me, otherwise I lose mental contact."

"Thank you Mikal for the medallion and bringing us this far. We will have to stop by Bainlunder lodge on our way back to Orussus once this is all over." replies Eternity as Mikal hands her the necklace.

"Our employer spoke of the mine itself. Perhaps the demonic infestation does not yet reach beyond that. We must watch out for the patrols though." she says to the group as they discuss their next move.

"Ironwolf, I can't help but notice that you refer to your psicrystal in a rather impersonal fashion. Is it not a part of you? While I have never imbued a crystal with a portion of my essence, I'd still probably name it something meaningfull to me." asks Eternity once Mikal has left.
