ooc: I'm a little lost with all the disagreement above, but I don't think Ironwolf's prior action (expanding) has happened yet. If I'm confused, let me know -- don't want to hold everybody up!

Michael starts off addressing Private Stander, then sighs and finishes his remark to Private Kneeler, as he's actually present.
He's not even listening to Zaeryl at this point: he simply doesn't have the patience to deal with it.

"I could have gone with Vanitri..."

The Stonepike Mountains

OoC: GM needs a double shot of Tequila. No, make that a triple...

Round 5[sblock=Hulgyr, Michael, Ironwolf, Eternity, Almayce: ]- Hulgyr lifted his sword nonthreateningly and angrily demanded that the soldier give the rock back.
- Michael chided Ironwolf for his impatience.
- Michael asked a soldier if he was going to be naughty.

Private Kneeler appeared to be quite annoyed with the party of adventurers: "We're just taking you to see the Lieutenant. That is, unless your buddy gets us all ready for battle." He showed no sign whatsoever of giving up Ironwolf's psicrystal.

Ironwolf 8

OoC: Still expanding and demanding the crystal back?

Eternity 8
Almayce 1[/sblock][sblock=Zaeryl]Privates Stander and Squatter have trotted around Zaeryl on opposite sides and have cut off his retreat. They are now positioned as in Post 613. If you can fit a 15' cone template on that, you may blast when ready. Obviously, Zaeryl cannot simply "run" between them without being subject to an AoO, but using Withdraw or some other strategy there are probably ways to pass between them without provoking an AoO. By "back away from them in a direction likely to provoke their clustering up", I assume that means Zaeryl intends to proceed along a vector that will take him closer to the party in the short run but may eventually take him much further away should he be unmolested...but that is for Turn 6.[sblock=DC5 Listen Check: ]Behind him, Zaeryl can hear Michael talking. He sounds fairly calm, all things considered.[sblock=DC7 Listen Check: ]Zaeryl can hear what he thinks is the third soldier replying to Michael behind him, sounding irate.[sblock=DC15 Listen Check: ]Michael says, "Thirty gravelling seconds, Ironwolf! How do you ever get any meditating done?" Then, in a different tone of voice, his words are: "My companion thinks you and your friends are going to imprison us. I think you're a good and honorable soldier who's above such things. Are you going to prove me wrong today?"[sblock=DC17 Listen Check: ]The third soldier, must be the "Kneeler" fellow, responds to Michael gruffly: "We're just taking you to see the Lieutenant. That is, unless your buddy gets us all ready for battle."[/sblock][/sblock][/sblock][/sblock][/sblock]

(OOC: That's fine. At this point, after following him into the woods rather than let him go free and just leave the area, their aggressive intent is clear to Zaeryl. He has no doubt that they would have been slashing him by now if not for the mind-control Michael used. Therefore, his goal has changed from escape (unlikely if they are insistent on pursuing) to termination. This should swing him a bit closer to any allies who decided to help out instead of let Michael get them all killed or imprisoned, and it is more likely to get them to line up for the cone than going right (which is where I guess you thought he would go))
