D1: Ashin's Commission (El Jefe judging)

On his next turn, barring some significant positive response to either his demand or at least Zaeryl's accusation, Ironwolf will expand.

"Give me back my crystal. NOW!" the 10' tall warrior demands.

If Michael has been able to concentrate on his ability and talk, the ability is still active.
If he has not been able to do that, the ability lasted for only 3 rounds, so it's done.
OoC: The duration is "Concentration, up to 1 round/level (D)". That means you must concentrate to keep the spell up, but that no matter how hard you concentrate, it doesn't stay up for more than 1 round/level. It is also dismissable, as the (D) indicates.[sblock=Hulgyr, Almace: ]Your mind emerges as if from a fog, realizing that although the three soldiers have taken no offensive action other than to demand that Zaeryl get back in line, they are soldiers, they have orders, and will attack with deadly force if threatened. This is potentially a very volatile situation.[/sblock]Round 5

Hulgyr 14
Zaeryl 14
Michael 10
Soldiers 10
Ironwolf 8
Eternity 8
Almayce 1

Hulgyr shakes his head slightly, as if shaking the fog from his mind. He raises his greatsword and rests it on his shoulder, taking a slightly more offensive posture: "The rock is ours. You give it back now. We don want trouble, jus the rock. If you don't give it me must take is. Is simple." He tells the soldier in a flat tone.

The Stonepike Mountains

Round 5

- Hulgyr lifted his sword nonthreateningly and angrily demanded that the soldier give the rock back.

Zaeryl 14
Michael 10
Soldiers 10
Ironwolf 8
Eternity 8
Almayce 1

OoC: Two of the soldiers have split off to deal with Zaeryl. Neither is in AoO range. They are moving to cut off his escape, but as he has initiative, they will not be able to do this without at least double moving.

Michael rolls his eyes.
"Thirty gravelling seconds, Ironwolf! How do you ever get any meditating done?"

He turns back to Private Stander.
"My companion thinks you and your friends are going to imprison us. I think you're a good and honorable soldier who's above such things. Are you going to prove me wrong today?"

Michael's hand stays away from his hammer, but it does go to the holy symbol about his neck, underscoring the metaphysical consequences of betraying his trust.

"If you want to prove our far-more-friendly cleric companion correct, you'll back away and let us go. You have no reason to stalk after us unless you plan on interning us," Zaeryl replies, still backing slowly away, but now angling so that he can be sure that no matter way the two continue, they will both be fried by his readied crystals if one even begins to come closer than 10 feet.

Eternity is starting to see the value in moving away from the soldiers. She starts moving towards Zaeryl not wanting to end up in prison.

The Stonepike Mountains

OoC: Honest, folks, I'm trying to keep this as simple as possible, but the complexity seems to be escalating.

Round 5

Zaeryl, Private Stander and Private Squatter have disappeared out of sight into the heavier woods.

[sblock=Hulgyr, Michael, Ironwood, Eternity, Almayce: ]

- Hulgyr lifted his sword nonthreateningly and angrily demanded that the soldier give the rock back.

[sblock=Listen Check: Almayce DC4, Michael and Ironwood DC5, Hulgyr and Eternity DC6]You can plainly hear Zaeryl and the soldiers discussing something angrily.[sblock=Listen Check, Almayce DC 14, Michael and Ironwood DC 15, Hulgyr and Eternity DC 16]Zaeryl opens with, "If you want to prove our far-more-friendly cleric companion correct, you'll back away and let us go. You have no reason to stalk after us unless you plan on interning us." The one you think is Private Stander replies, "Look, fool, I got orders to take you to the Lieutenant. Now get in line with your buddies and stop talking nonsense." Clearly, his mood has changed.[/sblock][/sblock]- Michael chided Ironwolf for his impatience.

OoC: Is Michael addressing his question to Private Kneeler (the one holding the psicrystal), since Privates Stander and Squatter have disappeared into the bush?
[sblock=Public answer if Michael addresses Private Kneeler instead: ]Private Kneeler appears, as they say in England, "chuffed". He answers the question thus, but is clearly annoyed with the party: "We're just taking you to see the Lieutenant. That is, unless your buddy gets us all ready for battle." He shows no sign whatsoever of giving up Ironwolf's psicrystal.[/sblock]Ironwolf 8

OoC: I doubt his action will change, but let's hold off until I get a response from ajanders to the question put to Michael above.

Eternity 8
Almayce 1[/sblock][sblock=Zaeryl: ]Privates Stander and Squatter pick up the pace, and block your escape route. Stander flanked you from the Duvik side, and Squatter came from the Kinthriver side. They are now in front of you, 10' away from you and 15' from each other. I checked with both templates for a 15' cone, and there's no way you can hit both of them with one blast. They don't seem to be aware that Zaeryl has any magical or psionic powers, but are simply trying to forcibly herd him back to the rest without resorting to an actual attack. Private Stander replies to your challenge: "Look, fool, I got orders to take you to the Lieutenant. Now get in line with your buddies and stop talking nonsense." Obviously, his friendly mood has changed.

If Zaeryl dashed off at an angle, he could, by passing close to the rest of the party, run away from both soldiers. He estimates they could match his speed, at which point it would become a test of luck (to avoid tripping on a fallen branch or something) or endurance.

I don't think your readied action is triggered yet, so unless you disagree, I think that's where we'll leave Zaeryl's actions for Turn 5.[/sblock]

(OOC: Shouldn't Zaeryl have been able to angle so that no matter where they moved, they would be in cone range after they moved, assuming he didn't just go straight back but paid attention to that, as I mentioned above? It seems geometrically impossible for this not to be the case--if you don't believe me, could you provide a map of what it looked like before Zaeryl's move (which of course is also before the soldiers' last move) so I can point out the move that will accomplish this for Zaeryl?)
