"We don't know how much lead he has, and in teh city, it will be hard to track him, maybe dangerous. Let's go back and see what he was after, in hope he didn't had teh time to find what he wanted." tells Ridik, leading Lucien back inside the scribery.

Heather nods, still in the grip of her emotions but slowly coming to terms with what happened. "...thank you. I'll go calm the children"

The Mountain Goblin looks outside and sees no trace of the intruder. Being short as he is, he does notice that the lock to this entrance/exit has been picked.

Looking for tracks outside is far easier for the Half-Elf than it was inside. It takes a few minutes but his night seeing eyes two trails: one going in and one going out. The tracks seem to be made by the same one person (probably Richard's assailant).

Tracking him through the streets will be very difficult and dangerous at this time. If he had spells at his disposal as Richard said...

Gardner

On his way down, Gardner hears multiple conversations going on in the house, both downstairs and upstairs. The Wood Elf ao-Thuir sounds like he's talking to Heather inside the living quarters. On the ground floor, he sees Richard and Ignatious' brother by the fireplace. The latter is sound asleep.

There is a chill breeze coming from the open kitchen door and movement outside.

Gardner will look outside.
OOC: Might be spotty for the next few days. possible emergency at work.

Setting the candle down carefully, Richard gives the woodpile a kick to shake loose any critters. He picks up an armload, returns to the fireplace, and sets about building a small fire, enough to illuminate the room.

"Thank you for the light." he says to Heather before heading back towards the others to find out what they've got.

Lucien utters a silent curse and re-enters the house. "The tracks indicate there was only one intruder, and he's fled. Did anyone find anything disturbed upstairs?"

"Rinya and I were in the secret room. We didn't see or hear anything funny in there.", Gardner says.

ao'Thuir joins the others at the stairs. "Heather and the children are fine, he did not try to head that way. Guess we missed him. Any luck figuring out what he was after?"

Ridik looks at ao'Thuir. "I think it is pretty obvious, he wanted the only thing we don't knwo about yet, the content of that chest. Lucien, could you take a look at the chest, and look to see if someone have played with it. I hope you will tell me that Richard agression on him will have discouraged him, but I doubt."

 

[Richard Rawen]

Now that he can see, Richard will take a moment to bar or block the doors and check the windows on the ground floor. He seems to be muttering under his breath as he moves from room to room, something about 'cursed fool' and 'so stupid'. The look on the human's face tells it all, he's thoroughly disgusted with himself.
Still, he is efficient now, grumpy or not.

Gardner looks outside. There is naught to see but shadow and naught to hear but the sounds of a city asleep. Is he looking for anything in particular

Most of the adventurers from the Red Dragon Inn (except for Rinya and Gardner) gather at the ground floor to share what they've found. It seems that the following has been established:
* The intruder with the feathered hat has escaped using his spellcasting ability
* He wasn't here to harm the scribe or his family (or else decided not to do so yet)
* He was invisibly sneaking around in the third floor with Richard before he showed himself and fought the Swordsman.
* He is skilled with the arts of subterfuge mundane and magical, including sneaking and opening locks.

OOG: Are you going to check on the chest tonight (as Ridik says) or wait until morning?
