D20 Elements Playtest!

Grail Quest

First Post
Call for Playtesters to try the next evolution in D20 gaming: d20 Elements.

Here is just a fraction of the possibilities! IMAGINE:

* no longer having to agonize over which skills are class and cross-class
* no longer looking up class progression charts
* no longer having boring character levels where you get nothing except another hit die

* shaping and evolving your character exactly the way you want, without having to jigsaw a half dozen character classes together
* putting your character through a mid-life career change without having to reconstruct your character over a mismash of levels and classes

It contains innovations such as :

* classless development

* corrected and expanded size chart
* no maximum or minimum size
* new interpretations of what size does
* separation of size and mass

* new take on putting together monsters

* the elements of weapons and armor

and much, much, more.

Use it in whole or in part or just for inspiration.

Disclaimer: This is a d20 "mod" personal project, and is in no way meant to imply backing or production from any publisher.

E-mail me (grail_quest@hotmail.com) for the new, improved, test file in SFX archive format containing Word and Excel files.

Sounds interesting. But I don't have enough hard drive space to re-install Open Office to open proprietary Microsoft formats, and even if I did, I will NOT re-install Microsoft Windows, which would be necessary for a self-extracting archive.

Not all of us are members of the Collective.

(Also, you don't say which version of MS Word and MS Excel. The different versions are mutually incompatible with cludged-on partial backward compatibility -- and an intentional LACK of forward compatibility.)

Please let us know if you have a chance to provide these files in a non-proprietary format such as HTML.

Cheers,

Sorry but I've got to call you on this. People were claiming class-less systems as an innovation 20 years ago, and it wasn't true then.

Also, I'd second Index's call for a different format. I do have Windows and Office, but I would still rather not open Office documents from strangers on the web, let alone executable files!

glass.

Yes there where classless systems twenty years ago, some are still going strong, yes I wouldn't mind a look I will admit, but there again, I love beta testing :)

Why not just post these somewhere for people to look at? Are you asking for NDAs, etc.?

I'd be glad to have a look, though I don't think I could talk my group into a full-blown playtest.

Hi! Thanks for your interest in D20 Elements.

Sorry to have to ask, but what's an NDA?

*

Since the rule changes are fairly significants, I'm not really expecting a full playtest of all the rules, unless you're really into total conversions of D20.

Some of the rules can be isolated, however, for limited playtest and incorporation into your games if you like them enough.

There are just too many to post for individual consideration, and some of them are best used when linked to other changes, so I decided to package them together.

Sorry, I shouldn't use obscure abbreviations. An NDA is a Non-Disclosure Agreement. Companies that do formal playtests often ask the testers to agree not to discuss the contents of the product until after it's released. They're used in other business deals, as well.

Putting everything together makes sense. What I meant was actually putting the file on a web site for people to download, instead of having to contact you via e-mail. You could set up a geocities page for free, then just post the URL here.

For instance, using those horrible, borg-like, cludgy programs to File->Save As HTML... ;)

No NDA

Hi!

(1) No NDA. It's free to anyone who wants to use it. Would be nice if I were given credit for it, though, but I'm not really looking to make money off this.

I've actually offered it completely free and no-strings-attached to WotC on a CD, but Customer Service sent it back with a standard "we're not looking at anything" reply. Rather sad about the closed-mindedness of their R&D (or the automaton-ness of their customer service).

(2) Part of the reason I wanted to give it out individually by e-mail is to gauge interest. If interest dries up, I'll probably shelve the project entirely.
I'm actually pulling out of RPGs and switching to real life. This is just all the miscellaneous ideas that came from years of gaming, that I'd like to offer to the gaming community before I archive it from my hard drive.
