D20 Future: excuse me while I drool

You know what makes me nervous? The page count. 224 pages seems a bit undersized considering the vastness of the subject matter. I sure hope this book isn't a half-assed job... :\

Yeah, but it's an expansion of the d20M rules, not a completely new game. The basic and advanced classes, char gen, wealth, the core feats--none of that stuff needs to be reprinted.

I think the 3.0 Psi-HB had about the same page count. It did a resonably good job of covering the subject. BTW, this has nothing to do with whether or not psi belongs in D&D, just that it was complete enough to do the job.

As Greatwyrm said, this is an expansion of d20 Modern so we don't need a repeat of the d20 Modern rules in d20 Future. We just need the new stuff, particularly stuff about running a futuristic game using d20 Modern.

Granted, there is no way you can cover EVERYTHING sci-fi, unless 100,000 gamers are willing to shell at least $50 for such a huge book the size of a Texas state phone directory. The best thing they can do is cover the more useful elements, and since a lot of people demanded it, a new psionic rules that is different from d20 Modern. Personally, I don't know why we're wasting ink and pages on a different psionic rules, but the gamers feel the present one is not "sci-fi" enough.

OBTW, Wizards is using some guy from New Zealand whose last name is Falconer that they say he used to work as a concept artist for some kind of low-budget fantasy film, "The Lord of..." something something, to do a few artworks for d20 Future. I think Moridin know something about that. Wink. Wink. ;)

It would be helpful if you elaborate your statement.

No it wouldn't, taste in art is a personal thing. I can see why someone might not like that particular style of art, but personally I think it suits the setting.

While I like a lot of the older, more adventure-inspiring action kinda shots, the new stuff suits me just fine. I am *very* interested to see some more of the interior art, because of how varied the subject matter can be.

d20 modern, d20 sci-fi future ... bah! I'm still waiting to hear about some sort of d20 product that takes us to a distant past, perhaps with fantasy or magical elements.

Isn't it called "Dungeons & Dragons"? :D

Nah, just kidding. I know what you're asking for. But as small as the market seems to be for Modern, I bet it's even smaller for a more "realistic" ancient fantasy game.
